Power bills to fall?

If the Government was actually concerned about power cosumers then why did they sell all the power stations.
Electricity used to be cheap when the Government owned it.
They sold them because they didn't want to pay to replace them.
I find it hard to believe that the Government that sells everything for a short term profit and budget boost while lying to us that it'll make it cheaper actually cares whether it's cheaper or not for us.
They see the results of privatisation all the time but still maintain the lie that it's always cheaper.
Never has anything become cheaper once sold

There are no numbers, though.

Any reduction in actual prices will undoubtedly be eaten up by 'supply' charges.

They've got to get a return on those gold-plated wires.

A lot of the problem with electricity prices is the various regulators setting prices for a ROI. So the investment was high to allow the prices to be high.

Even here, where the government still owns half the electricity supplier, and the network was inherited from the Commonwealth government only 30 years ago, the formulae used would make a tax dodger blush.

i dont think power bills will ever go down as long as we rely on a company to sell us that electricity.

the only way to cut your bill is making your own power and storing it for your own use.

i also see the delema authorities are facing, as solar and battery technology improves we could see a future where large numbers of consumers are switching off from the big boy power companies.

and that hits govt with less revenue

then we are moving to electric cars, no more fuel excise, panic must be seeting in the govt bean counters.

how do we tax people for fuesl they create themselves?

during the recent water shortages we had rumblings of a 'rain tax' on anyone capturing the rain falling on their own property.

it didnt happen but it was talked of

the public wasnt buying it

it didnt pass the pub test.

but it showed the idiocy of suits in govt.

will those with their own solar systems be hit with a 'sun tax'?

i am not smart enough to work out how much tax saved if your driving an electric car but it must be a lot.

i do know my electricity bill halved after i installed solar panels, good for me not good for agl or the govt.

None of this would be a problem if it were not for the massive permanent structural tax deficit deliberately created by Howard and Costello for ideological reasons.

They're not going to fall. Anymore than petrol prices have fallen.

Specially if we continue to close our coal-fired power stations and send our coal to overseas interests who use our coal to power their voracious coal-fired industries
