Prince Charles becoming Commonwealth head

Republicans 'disappointed' Turnbull didn't oppose Prince Charles becoming Commonwealth head

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-04-21/british-republicans-say-they-are-disappointed-in-turnbull/9683...

there was a time when the thought of Charlie sitting on the throne was not something i wanted to ever see.

but hes now 69, old and grey and who knows how long hes left doddering about.

his life has been spent in service to his mummy, with many screw-ups.

what he did to his first wife, unforgivable.

but he endured the years of scorn, and has settled down into his current role of travelling carnival opener.

so let him be king for whats left of his life, it'll prolly make us apreciate his son so much more when he steps up to the plate.

i am a republican BTW.

Woman Sad

Edward V11 - heir to Victoria - was 59 - when he ascended the throne.

Only lasted 9 years.

Interestingly - QE11 is so far the longest living British Monarch.

Let what ride.

It is an hereditary title - doesn't matter how old he is - if he wants the job.

He gets it.

Just thought about that one.

If he lives as long as his mother - another 23 years - not a bad reign - whenever he gets it..

They seem to be long livers - these days.

Didn't you notice, Freddie gave a sad face.

69 old and grey.

Strikes a sore point.

Nothing to do with Charlie becoming King.

More to do with us all being old and grey in David's view.

I'm not fussed if Prince Charles is made head of the Commonwealth or becomes King or whatever.

Lots of that job is ceremonial.  Same with him as King when it comes to Oz.

I'm not a royalist or a republican....I'm more of a let's-focus-on-stuff-that-really-matters kind of person..

just for the record, i'm 58 and old and going grey, in my eyes.

my grandfathers both died before 65

my dad made it to 82 but with the help of modern drugs and for the last 5 or 6 was not enjoying life.

we can pretend we are not old, but we know we are.

its not a bad thing and you cant avoid it.

would you be happy for charlie to be driving a school bus?

Does he have a bus licence? 😉

In any case, with a posse of advisors and of course the government of the day, unlike the bus driver Charles won't be working alone.

I guess I'm also old and grey (well a bit older than David) and decrepit as well (though thankfully not mentally).  My mother is 92.  She and I both know there is no way I am going to live to that age. So be it.

The queen has not abdicated - just handing over the travelling and opening ceremonies role.  I have to wonder if he will ever be king with Camilla by his side.

I think the Queen is laying down the ground rules for the succession so people get used to the idea of Charles (eventually) becoming King.

Whether Camilla will have the title of Queen however is a whole other matter.  From what I've read, opinions in the UK still seem to be divided.
