Prisoners are not supposed to know the date and time of their hospital appointments

for this very reason.  

 

At least that's what happens in Victoria.   They just get called up and taken immediately.

And what's with the guards being unarmed?

 

The prisoner had been convicted of armed robbery so you would think his guards would be armed when escorting him anywhere outside the prison.
