I think most politician go into to it for honest reasons but there are some from both sides and the minor parties that spring up that are self serving and/or corrupt. Those that go into it for the power trip or are not the best either.

I would think that the olfactory faculties of the myopics will have now been well tuned by the odorous Obeid and the NSW ALP.
Aug 2011
"JULIA Gillard yesterday restated her confidence in Labor backbencher Craig Thomson, forgiving him for the late declaration to the parliament of a financial gift from the ALP to settle his legal bills."
2012
"the NSW Labor Party had paid almost $350,000 in legal costs for Mr Thomson before he was suspended."
So whilst we wait for some real facts from the ICAC, we can look forward to the sentencing of the malodorous convicted criminal Thomson

And going back even further, why was Sinodinos made Assistant Treasurer in the first place when details of the emerging scandal were known to everybody?

OOHHHH dear please stop.......... and get your facts straight
Sinodinos is only a witness to the ICAC investigation into the company he chaired before entering parliament, Australian Water Holdings.
He has not been named as a person of interest.
In that sense, his situation is no different to that of Greg Combet who as a minister in the Gillard government also appeared before ICAC as a witness. Not surprisingly it too was a case inspired by the name Obeid.
No one asked Combet to step down then. So Labor’s calls for the head of Sinodinos are somewhat hypocritical.

In one devastating opening address on Monday, an animated Geoffrey Watson SC wiped away a five-year political advantage enjoyed by the Liberal Party in New South Wales on corruption, influence peddling and slush funding.
The Independent Commission Against Corruption, a creation of the 1988 Greiner Coalition government, and now with added resources (forensic accountants, IT specialists, telephone interception and covert surveillance) has exposed the evidentiary leads. They go from the Labor Party directly across to the Liberal Party with allegations of **bleep**ry, venality, vicious reprisal against public servants and the audacious scamming of a public utility, Sydney Water.
There is one perception many observers will come to: this state's "Rum Corps" culture of corruption extends to the NSW Liberal Party with its own blowflies of urgers, chancers, powerbrokers and "lobbyists".
