Believe what you like. Not sure why you think I thought she was in the Greens.

She has Green leanings but was never a Greenie. She's even married to a Liberal Smiley LOL

Two dads is well known as Sarah two dads, or Australia's dumbest Politician

which she has proved numerous times.

And what is wrong with running her down ?

You do it to Abbott.

No, she is not known as two dads. That's a disgusting name to call a person.

We missed it last night Blue, but we love Q&A . We think its a great show and its surprising how many people do watch it. From being on twitter I know that most of the journos are avid watchers and it brings lots of discussion.

There's a replay today some time and it's on iview.

Like I said I didn't watch it all.Maybe 5 minutes or so.Having said that,I find it hard to believe that men make up 25% of domestic violence victims. Are there statistics to prove this?

Like you, I was very suprised at the number of men who are being attacked. I was sitting on the couch doing the numbers. We know that domestic violence against women is a HUGE problem, so if you think that for every three woman attacked there is one man, this must be an enormous social problem as well. Yet we never hear of it, there are NO services available for men, no discussion of the problem and no-one willing to even give it more than a token reference in an important discussion such as the Q & A session last night.

I was frankly shocked that Stott Despoja dismissed and degraded the one one male in the show who admitted to domestic violence from his wife in such a flipant way. If 25 % of domestic violence is against males there is obviosly an enormous social problem going un-noticed.

I am not picking sides here. Violence against woman is entrenched to the extent that every-one knows some-one affected. At least we are talking about and providing services for the woman affected by this problem. What about the hidden ( and probably under reported ) problem of male victims ?

And as usual the discussion descends from a really important one about domestic violence to bickering and name calling.

Just for once, for this very important subject, could we all please just address the issue?

There are support services for men too and there is a men's support hotline.

The fact is the violence against men is not as severe as the violence against women and the men are more likely to be in a financial position to leave.  Although there is some violence to men the severity of the violence is less and the number of fatalities is many times less.

15 dead women this year.  How many dead men?

Q&A

There were a few comments came up on the Twitter tape along the lines of why do we call it domestic or family violence. Call it what it is. Someone asked why the same fuss isn't being made about this type of attack as was made about the so called coward punch.

I do not think that Natasha was in any way dismissive of DV against men.  She just pointed out that there are many different degrees of violence, and the issue for men is different.   The degree of violence against women is different.  Women are usually dependent on the men, it is more difficult for them to leave for practical reasons.  For men it is more difficult to be taken seriously if they try to seek help.  Men need different  kind of help.

Friend of mine was being attacked by his partner who would hit him and hurl objects at him, including small pieces of furniture.  The problem was he is 6'4" and very fit strong man, and she willowy looking small slender woman, if he as much as laid a finger on her in self defence, he would be the one charged, because nobody would believe that she was the aggressor.

Just because it is "less severe" doesn't make it any less important though.

If I said violence against women wasn't important because it wasn't that severe, you'd be up in arms over it.

Q&A

There is alot of men that are victims of domestic violence, I personally know 2.

Men suffer dreadfully from the domestic violence, it just isnt spoken about as much as women and domestic violence, because men are seen as the stronger gender.  Those that think that way are so wrong.

Men suffer just as much as women, just not talked about.

I know all about domestic violence against women, when I was married to my ex, I went to hell and back, he threatened me and his children with verbal abuse, putting a knife to my throat and wanting to burn the house down with the kids in it........that didnt occure, as the police took him.
