Quentin Bryce - what a champion!

How great is this woman?

In the last of the Boyer lectures she imagines an Australia where human rights are pivotal, all marriage is equal and we are our own republic.

Politicians take note.

I have never taken to Quentin Bryce.... not sure why but I have never liked her....

I think she disrespected the role she was in... if she had an opinon of such a political nature she should have waited until she left this role to have her say. I find it hypocritical that she takes the the wage for a job she thinks should not be there anymore...

Her opinion which as our Prime Minister has stated she has a right to express.

It IS political however for people to suggest that her opinion must be the same as our current Government. (otherwise our GG is disrespectful...what are people who say that being to our GG?)..

..in doing so they make her a political figure who's own opinion must be inline with our Current Government.

How's that for Democracy  ....controlled opinion!!

Please don't call her this, she would laugh if she heard it

That is how we were required to address her and how I always have and will continue to do so. If not that, on formal occasions we were required to address her as Her Excellency. I did not mind then, and I certainly have no objections to doing so now.

She holds a position of respect and is entitled to that respect.

Well, 30 years ago she would have laughed if she heard it.  But "you do what you have to do", or "the end justifes the means".

If you see the whole speech, you will realise she was speaking about the future...."boy or girl" might be head of state, not man or woman.

Catmad, I don't know how you feel about "women having the right to control their own bodies",  but QB fought hard for and opened the first Children by Choice clinic in Queensland.   It was far more than an abortion referral service, it provided information and counselling for women and girls when there was nowhere else to receive it.

She has "championed" many causes for the oppressed and disadvantaged in her life.

I am hoping you might soften your opinion.     Smiley Happy

Leading public figures, selected annually by the ABC board, deliver the Boyer Lectures on topics

of special relevance to the Australian community.

The 2013 Boyer Lecture series will be presented by Her Excellency, The Honourable Quentin Bryce AC CVO, Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia.

The title of the series, Back to Grassroots, reflects the Governor-General’s involvement in community, the law, and human rights activism, reform and practice throughout her personal and professional life.  Whilst she has occupied formal public roles on state and federal bodies, and leadership and teaching roles within academic institutions, the motivation for her work has primarily come from her experiences and observations on the ground, in the lives of Australian women and children.

Consistent with this philosophy, the Governor-General has, in her current role, taken a hands-on approach to her outreach and engagement with the Australian community. This lecture series takes listeners on a journey “back to grassroots” in the context of her own life and work over the last fifty years, and in the context of contemporary Australia.

She has done a lot of good... I just don't think she is my cup of tea... my opinion is nothing personal as I have never met her... just what I have seen on TV....
