How great is this woman?
In the last of the Boyer lectures she imagines an Australia where human rights are pivotal, all marriage is equal and we are our own republic.
Politicians take note.

My husband could take it and live by it Polo...he does now...he isn't even Australian.More so than some going by the Pledge.

The allegedly accurate government stats are online
They allegedly reveal the extent, in billions of dollars, of money being sent overseas to migrants who decided to 'return home'
It's a lot of money
Their own countries provide them a pittance, if anything
But that's ok. They're big men in the village now --- thanks to those hundreds of Aussie dollars hitting their bank account in the old country -- every week, every month, every year, for decades and decades
My we're a lovely and generaous temporary (if reluctant) host nation, aren't we
They took the pledge though
Bargain ! To earn fifty Aussie dollars in their country, they'd need to cart logs for ten years
But by merely 'taking the pledge' in Australia, they're made-men for life !
LOL

She ended her lecture with the offer of a new vision of an Australia ''where people are free to love and marry whom they choose and where perhaps, my friends, one day, one young girl or boy may even grow up to be our nation's first head of state''. That sounds perfectly good to me.
What GG is paid has nothing to do with how much are pensions or dole, or refugees, who by the way do not receive free housing or anywhere near what pensioners get. By the way I am prety sure the pensions are now more than $16 000, which is $300+ per week, and if people are renting they also get rental allowance, and discount for power, gas and water, and car rego. If you shop wisely you can easily live on $100 per week for food. You certainly do not need to live on 3 minutes noodles.

Yes, when people retire they can go live o/s and get their super or pension paid over there. They paid their tax while working here and contributed to their super, so of-course you cannot deny them that income. But they have to be from a country that has reciprocal arrangement with Australia, that means that these countries also pay any pensions to people living here. For instance I know people from Germany and UK who get their Australian pension plus pension from the other country, this amount is counted as income and the Australian pension gets reduced accordingly. One of my friends gets about 100euros = $150 a week, and she loses something like $50 (?) from her pension. Not to mention that people taking their pension o/s lose such benefits as healthcare, and only get the basic pension. That means that Australia saves lots of money by not having to provide health care, and other benefits to them.

You are right, Super Nova, OA pensions are now almost $414 p/week, not including rent allowance. Plus, if you are a real pensioner, there are lots of discounts to be had.
Noodles have no nutrition. Real food is much cheaper than man made "food". Lots of healthy food can be bought for less than $50 p/week.
