So was I, and further to that I was taught that there was a time and a place for telling the truth that was respectful towards all parties.

You want some truth ?  That was a shameful post.

RIP Malcolm Fraser

one of things that I found most admirable was that despite all the past 'bad blood' between them, he and Gough Whitlam actually became very good friends

who would've thought that could even be possible after their past history??

It takes big men to put all that aside, and both of them were 'big men' in my book

Fraser opened Australia's arms to welcome "boat people".

Such a contrast from today's leader, who folds his arms and shuns them.

Yes, he did.

Julia Gillard posted a nice tribute this morning.

I honour Malcolm Fraser's service to our country as Prime Minister.

Malcolm Fraser in and beyond politics was a leader in the fight for racial equality. His brave stance against the evil of South Africa's apartheid helped change the world for the better.

Malcolm will always be remembered kindly for his commitment to multiculturalism and his specific actions to resettle Vietnamese boat people in Australia. Many will also recall with admiration his compassionate work internationally through his leadership post politics of CARE Australia and then CARE International.

My condolences go to his family, friends and colleagues, especially his wife Tamie, who has touched the hearts of so many Australians. After such a long and loving marriage, her grief will be profound and all our thoughts are with her.

With the loss of the great Gough Whitlam last year, the chapter in our nation's history that included the controversy of the dismissal has closed. However, our memories of that era encompass far more than the days of the constitutional crisis and today we remember all of Malcolm Fraser's life and works with respect. JG

Spot on Azure, he had become a man to admire.

Some years ago, I attended fund raising functions his daughter organized and my impression of the family were always favourable.

For me, he reminds us of more conservative times, times that served Australia well.

RIP Malcolm Fraser.
