I'm not against the idea as money has to come from somewhere
Why are Labor saying they wont, isn't it the logical thing to do?
Maybe I haven't read enough on the topic, there is a topic going on the ps board but I think I would rather discuss it here.

I really don't care about GST increase..
BUT Wayne Swan is scaremongering...
where does he get the info about Abbott increasing the GST??
It was only a few days ago that Abbott totally refuted that accusation....

You need all states to agree.. highly unlikely that will ever happen.

there must be some truth in it then . he hasn't named ways to fund his small ideas. if he has a plan he ought to talk about it.. people will speculate when you say nothing but 'we will be releasing something closer to the election' . hiding policies is bound to have people wondering what horrors he is attempting to conceal..

LL.. all states need to agree.. I find it very difficult to imagine that ever happening...
And I really don't mind it going up... we need to raise money to pay for the cost of running a country.
People always want to reduce their tax bills and don't want to give the government money and I never understood why.. You need to pay your fair share of the bill.
And I find it strange that people on low incomes will now pay even less tax yet they are the biggest users of the welfare system so it is like they never have to put in to help pay their own way.

the states would agree as long as the carve- up was fair, its the electorate that might have problems with the idea. lowering tax-free thresholds decreases the amount paid to the same people from the welfare budget i would have thought.

I dont know why they would need to increase the GST
.
after all they keep telling us how great everything is, so they should be rolling in money from all the people spending all their money in these great times. 😛
