What about random drug tests for people that work?
Why discriminate?

I think the 3 strikes and you are out would have the desired effect.
First would be a warning
Second would be a reduction in the dole. Obviously if they can afford the drugs on the dole they are getting too much.
Third would be work for the dole at a reduced rate.
Strike four and you are off the dole.
Starving on the street is their own choice .

Yes it would be but as it isn't, lets baby people along so they never have to take responsibility for themselves.
I understood that unemployment benefits (or Newstart Allowance) was 'financial help if you are looking for work. It supports you while you do activities that may increase your chances of finding a job, such as studying or training.' I don't believe it is for providing for a habit which may make you less employable.

So you think it would be OK to allow people to starve on the street for their own benefit?

No that is not what i suggested, junkies steal to support a habit that they have because they made the choice to start taking drugs in the first place. No one made them take their first drug same as no one forces anyone to take their first drink or cigarettte.
i think all junkies should be put in a padded cell to "get clean" with help and education. After getting clean it is then up to that individual to make the choice whether or not they return to drugs. It's called self control and the want to be a normal and productive person who contributes in a positive way to society. There is a lot of help out there, they have to have the will power to not return to drugs and stop blaming everyone or the system for their predicament.

And do you think they will starve on the street?
Or do you think they will do whatever they have to in order to get money for food and drugs?

Newstart, as I understand it, people who are addicted to drugs or alcohol have an illness/disability that is covered under the DSP rules.

They have that choice if they want it.
Most people want freedom of choice, i say give it to them along with the responsibility for their choices.
I am all for people being held accountable for their actions 🙂
