Just for the records, Germany provides food, health care, financial support, education, housing and does NOT lock up people on remote islands. Italy with a significant refugee issue declares a day of national mourning when a boat capsizes on the Mediterranean and people drown.

As you are such a caring person and everyone else is heartless answer these simple questions.. You can give 1 word or even a 1 line answer per question....
How many have you welcomed into your home as boarders as you are so compassionate and a huge advocate of the refugee system and boat people.
How many have you helped financially?
How many have you assisted with your time?
and again... How many have you welcomed into your home as borders?
And if you consider these questions as showing proof that a 'person' really cares then perhaps you could ask the country/Abbott the same question:
Australia - how many have you welcomed onto your land.
"Not many actually. Infact. I have a closed door policy when it comes to refugees."
Australia - how many have you helped finiancially.
"Well I kind of leave that to the charities and Australian citizens to sort out."
Australia- how many have you assisted with yout ime.
"Well a lot of time has been spend trying to get them out of here. Is that what you mean?"

What I don't understand is the level of animosity towards asylum seekers. Murderers, paedophiles, etc, I can understand the hatred but not when its aimed at people who need help.

It's simple, Bluecat - if we can convince ourselvesthat these people are undeserving parasites, then we don't need to feel bad about turning them away or worry about where they will go or what might happen to them.

I heard an interview on ABC this morning with an Indonesian refugee supporter that those asylum seekers who were (or were not) pushed back last week will probably face a prison term of 10 years because that is what Indonesian law provides for.
Great going, morrison

Excellent move and now maybe the word will spread that they come through the front door not the back door and the boats will stop even more.
I dont care what other countries are doing, this is Australia and not some other country and I am FED up with paying for these people to queue jump and bleed our system financially and the bleeding hearts out there that live in some sort of alternative universe that has money trees growing and an unlimited supply of recourses and money.
Time we looked after our own people and not queue jumpers.
***super_nova*** as you are such an advocate of speding billions of OUR money on these people, what have you done to help and contribute to the burden and cost?

We are not talking about personal help to people; we are talking about Australians (one of the richest nations) complaining about the handful unfortunate people who reach our shores. Australians have this distorted view that ALL the refugees are heading this way. They are not. Australians think that the refugees who make it here get extraordinary help here; they do not. Actually, i cannot think of another country that treats them as badly as we do.

Or just answer with questions and demand that you answer. I mean really - when someone says "I believe in God" do we demand -
just answer this - have you ever seen God, Have you let God have dinner at your house, Have you ever assisted God financially, obviously if you answer no to any of these questions then you don't really believe in God.
Or what about "I agree with saving our Whales" - questions would be - How many whales have you personally saved from death - oh none - then you must be lying.
It's an odd way of arguing a point, as far as i know these boards are not a court of law and nobody is obliged to answer, how about we try and stick to FACTS.

Pretty dumb questions.
You don't need to give over a room in your house to board a refugee to show compassion and empathy.
