Regarding being hasselt by the mods about going OT

We could at the bottom of the OP add a line like that

"General chat welcome, please feel free to discuss OT here as well"

it would make it impossible to be OT in a thread and the harassment by the mods might recede a bit.

to the mods:

mod·er·ate  (mdr-t)adj.

1. Being within reasonable limits; not excessive or extreme: a moderate price.
2. Not violent or subject to extremes; mild or calm; temperate: a moderate climate.

your moderation style can certainly be called excessive, extreme and unreasonable. I and most other posters here would like you to be more moderate in your moderation.

At least when you are being hassled you still exist. When they NARU you, all lines of communication are cut as if you never were (and even worse, sellers are no longer obliged to send goods even if you have paid for them)

I saw on another thread that someone had a 2 day holiday. These forums have mellowed.

Sometimes the pm's are a bit odd, (just something we aren't used to perhaps) and the editing by mods is unusual. but I do think, overall, the moderation is better.

the whole off topic thing is imo trivial .As this is a designated 'general discussion' board off topic imo should only apply to posts which belong on other boards (ebay related boards ..ie; those who's topics are buying/selling/moderation ).If 'off topic' is used to control general discussion in a community ...it is not really general discussion and not open to every members unique input (as per Community Values).

The discussion board usage policy found here: http://pages.ebay.com.au/help/policies/everyone-boards.html very clearly states under "some examples" :

"The following types of postings are cause for immediate post removal, warning, board sanction and/or suspension from the site. Other inappropriate postings not listed below may also warrant removal and/or suspension from the site. eBay reserves the right to remove any post without warning or further notice.

  • Posts that do not relate to the discussion board’s topic(s)."

It does not say ANYWHERE that posts must adhere to the topic of the THREAD.

This is an off topic eBay discussion board.  Having posts removed for being off topic in a THREAD is not mentioned ANYWHERE in the discussion board usage policy.

The TOPIC of the Community Spirit discussion board very clearly states:

There are no unread messages in this message board
"Show your community spirit! Talk with fellow members about non eBay related topics."

Obviously, the Discussion Board Usage Policy is being very loosely interpreted when it comes to  "off topic" topics.

If being off topic in a thread on this board is not permitted it would be nice if the Discussion Board Usage Policy reflected that and actually stated that.

The last time the discussion Board Usage Policy was updated was April 2009, so I won't hold my breath...

Finally, the Discussion Board Usage Policy states: "Other inappropriate postings not listed below may also warrant removal and/or suspension from the site. eBay reserves the right to remove any post without warning or further notice." So basically, they can remove any post and/or suspend you from the site for any reason at all. Cat LOL

Show your community spirit! Talk with fellow members about non eBay related topics."

Are you kidding? With the exception of perhaps "Rumpole of the Bailey's Wife" these mods absolutely ROCK - and some of them have a sense of humour too!

I recently posted a picture of some chimps sitting at computers with a caption something like "reminds me of the mods" and I got a PM saying "they were the one to the extreme left of the picture"! (sic)

I think the new mods are absolute Legends.

Re: Regarding being hasselt by the mods about going OT

so it's no more emails for something to do with discussion that reflects badly on ebay and ebay related services ?

Instead the moderators engage in conversation off the boards as if they are boardies themselves ?

or is that and those sort of PM's you received only for some ?

Freddie!Heart bad mods!Woman Sad

Without getting myself in trouble here for discussing unmentionable stuff................ Crikey, not always............ and no, not kidding. I don't want mod's for friends, I want them to do the job they are paid to do, not play favourites (or let us think they agree with our posts)......... and issue warnings relevant to the rules.
