Perhaps people neglect their selves because they are too busy chasing dreams fuelled by their expectations.
Or maybe it's that introspection is viewed with the same 'mainstream' suspicion as tie-dyed cheesecloth, crystals and self help books are, whereas relationships (no matter how disastrous) are seen as the acceptable norm.
In short, it seems it's "better" for two people to make each other incredibly unhappy than it is to seek the happiness that dwells within.
Yes, weird is a word I'd use, too.
The funny thing is, a lot of people I have known have found their happiness in sitting and reading a book, or fishing, or cooking.
Taking a little bit of time out for themselves seems to be the answer to a not so difficult question.

They do have, and exercise common sense, and I don't doubt that for a moment.
Sometimes, I think, people may exercise poor judgement, that's no reflection on their ability to exercise common sense.
They choose to say or do things which may seem, to the outside observer, to be unwise, but what they choose to do is their choice.
Words on a screen aren't necessarily a reflection of the true character of their author.
Perhaps the grumpy, cynical, rude, sarcastic folk that you may encounter in internet land, from time to time, are simply people who are tired at the end of a hard day and just want to vent, to shout, to give voice to their frustations. You are "reading" people freed of the necessity of forced politeness that society imposes upon them. Their on line time is their time to be free, on line is where they get to shout and yell and let it all out.
Or maybe they are cynical, sarcastic, grumpy and rude. Who can say?

What a fantastic observation
You know I never thought of it like that
Is a bit of a quandary
Are people really grumpy or rude
Or are they just venting
What about the people who are always
Nice on here and there are several
That comes to mind
Ate they likely to be grumpy rude
Cynical etc in reality

Off line, in the real world, yes, I'm as human, as imperfect as anyone.
I have my cynical, grumpy and rude moments. It's a good thing that cars, with the windows wound up, are essentially sound proof. I've had some of my best swear-like-a-trooper angry rant sessions on bits of road between traffic lights. It's very therapeutic.

Well I would be really disappointed
To find that everyone here was
Behaving in a way completely different
To their normal every day
Characters just because they are
Anonymous
I would expect that of children
But not from a lot on here
Sure I can understand people wanting
To appear learned and Worldly but we
All know that Google is their friend
But to completely reverse character
Like a jeckle and Hyde
No I don't think that is true in most
Cases
