Another two young kids die by hitting a roadside tree:
http://www.mamamia.com.au/two-boys-die-in-altona-crash/
Isn't it about time that roadside trees are removed?
The amount of times I've heard people dying by hitting a roadside tree is ludicrous.
This is one simple thing to reduce the road toll,(the added benifit is that they could sell them for firewood).
Travelling from Katamatite to Shepparton is a nightmare as you are always looking at branches that overhang
the road and when it rains you watch the dead trees in case they topple,(that's apart from the big roadside
trees that will kill anyone that hits them).
Someone will die because of those trees,(most are Gum trees and one given with Gum trees is that sooner
or later they will drop their branches).
Report them and you get a thank you and that's it.
Nothing gets done until a branch or a tree falls and then it's just cleaned up,(once it's cleaned up there is no
sign that it ever happened),
Solved! Go to Solution.

Shouldn't that be "A bird in the bushes is worth 2 in the hand"?
It's life Jim, but not as WE know it.
Live long and prosper.

What about hedges ?
Wouldnt that look grand.
Bushes that can be topiarised.
Creating many new jobs and from outer space
Australia would look like a giant maze.
If they were thick enough they would cushion the
Impact of an accident and save lives.

A crash in a bush is worth three in a tree?

When the driving conditions are manifestly dangerous or unsafe, maybe even because of a lack of road maintainance, then just slow down.
How is a someone that has never driven along that road to know that?
I once drove to Qld where the road near Goondiwindi was full of potholes and you had to keep going on the
other side of the road to avoid them and then stop if a truck came towards you,(luckily the fog had lifted
and you could see the potholes).
Others weren't so lucky and had severe damage to their rims.
When there are mischeivous and nasty trees just waitning to pounce on an unsuspecting motorist as they drive by; then just slow down.
A slower driving speed gives the driver more time in which to react to dangers.
Which is resposible for a number of accidents as others try to pass them in a dangerous situation.

People should take responsibility for their own actions and not blame every bad thing that happens to them on someone else or some inanimate tree. Don't want to die hitting a tree, pay attention, less speed, no alcohol.
It seems that there is only a few people that know what the problem is and others blame the driver.
There are also accidents where the driver is not impaired in any way,(but it must be their fault for driving on
a road that has trees).
Can those that blame the driver then show the rest of us how drivers are at fault when an animal jumps in
front of them,(it could be a Roo,Cow,Horse),etc,a tree branch drops on the road and they swerve to avoid it,
they swerve to avoid a head on,hit a pothole, someone leaves their high beam on,etc, they then hit a
roadside tree and die because they did what wrong?
What should they have done in those split seconds to avoid that situation?
If that roadside tree wasn't there, they may have done some damage to their car but they would've most
likely survived,(but obviously that tree is more important then a human life),
Please drive safely during the holiday period as there are ijuts on the road and other dangers,

They are the ones that need to be removed.
From what I saw on the news the tree was a fair distance from the actual road. Similar accident happened some years ago just after the Westgate Bridge going west. In that time I used that road regularly and for a long time the tree stump and burned out area was a sad reminder of that accident. That tree was also 5-6 meters from the freeway. However there are some trees in the Dandenong ranges that grow just inches from the sealed road and I think that they should be removed.

I'm not really sure that a responsible
Driver should leave the road at high
Speed to avoid an animal.
And I would also expect that a vehicle
Traveling at 100 kph, might roll after jumping
An embankment on the side of the road
In the absence of a tree. So in some cases it wouldn't
Make a difference if a tree was there or not

Love hedges. Hedges are bushes...yes? I've been wanting to create a private area using hedges or bushes in my backyard. Besides privacy, they also block a certain amount of sound. Sound from neighbors, and from spying ears.
I've been here over 2 years and have a wide open back yard with only a few bushes waiting for me to create something. I'm thinking I need to pay someone to do it, but of course, money's always an issue when you buy a money pit.
I had to google "topiarised". : )

I like the hedge idea.

Grass is good too but never cut your neighbours grass.
