REPORTS of a strong gas odour across a widespread area of Perth have prompted an investigation by authorities.
Hundreds of complaints have been made to ATCO Gas Australia since early Thursday morning, with some residents claiming the smell woke them up.
But ATCO Gas Australia says the smell is not coming from the company's gas network.
Western Australia's Department of Environment Regulation is investigating.

The gas inself does not smell it is an additive that is used to make an offensive smell so you know there is gas in the air.

We had the gas smell here probably a week ago? I could smell it outside but not in the house. I was worried because I thought it was my hot water heater and it would blow up. We use Alinta gas.
Most likely they used too much rotten egg smell which tells you when the gas is low. Something that you would find if you used bottled gas.
