His wife Shirley died in 2013 and he abdicated in favour of his son Prince Graham soon after Kopes.
He was a fascinating West Australian - eccentric and loyal to Australia but prepared to stand up for what he believed in.
Apart from currency, HRP issued visas and even had a national anthem.
We visited his 'Principality' some years ago now - it was quite weird actually - almost like a ghost town at the time.
His word was his bond - that is so rare these days.
A loss ..........

Thanks for the info.
I should have said Principality.
People that don't let go of principals are to be admired.
Back to the fruit, we are soooo fortunate.
All the fresh berries, mangoes and other exotic fruit.
I planted a nectarine tree 4-5 years ago and had a terrific amount last year but this year as leaves and flowers sprung it attracted thrips and no fruit at all. Need to use an organic spray this spring I think.

Do you know what sort of nectarine it is Kopes?
When I lived back east we grew almonds, nectarines, apricots, apples, pears, peaches, cherries and quinces ........ not huge orchards but individual trees with enough pollinators. Some did well, others not so much (we were babes in the woods regarding planting conditions) but it was fun anyway and the blossom was beautiful even if the fruiting was not prolific.
Good luck with eradicating the thrips Kopes!
Edited to correct tense in first line lol

A white nectarine.
I am assuming they were thrips but could be another sort of mite.
They infested early as flowers came out, before the fruit, and branch ends with leaves were black with insects.
Even covered with ants feeding on the insects.
I read somewhere that ladybugs are good to contain bugs on nectarines.
Will probably spray with garlic n vinegar before spring.
