Anyone else ever find themselves clicking on some 'news' story when they are on their way to some other site, and getting distracted?
Here's mine for the day.
Ronan Keating and wife Storm allegedly refuse to pay cleaner over 'appalling' job (msn.com)
It's about some people I have never heard of but who are apparently celebrities, complaining about the house clean done by a firm.
The bit that first got me in was this. The cleaning firm said they had been told it was a regular 5 bedroom house but when they arrived they found
"There were seven bedrooms, eight bathrooms and three kitchens."
😄That's not my idea of a regular 5 bedroom house. How the other half live.
Plus the cleaners were expected to clean at the same time removalists were removing all the furniture.
The celebrity complaints even covered the fact that a vase hadn't been emptied and some food packets had been left on shelves. I was under the impression those sorts of things were done by the home owner.
If I were the celebrity I'd just be negotiating for another clean (and paying).
Anyone else come across some weird 'news' stories?

Another one, not of any relevance to me as I have no kids at home, but interesting all the same.
How much board should adult kids pay?
How much rent should adult children pay their parents? (msn.com)

These days everything is news, even if somebody finds a bug in the salad... It's OK if they post on the page of the company that sold them the salad I guess, but is it really Yahoo News?

I do my utmost to avoid shock-horror news stories, but of course it's not always possible to do so.
Sometimes the heading for a news story is quite deliberately geared to elicit outrage, at the expense of the story itself. Some affront-mongering ABC journalist couldn't just speak about who'd been selected to be pitted in the Davis Cup against the Hungarian team. He couldn't just say "Saville, Kokkinakis, Peers, de Minaur and Popyrin selected for Australia's Davis Cup clash with Hungary". No, he had to whip up some indignation by stating "Doubles grand slam winner Nick Kyrgios left out of Australia's Davis Cup team".
Wait a moment. It was worse than that. I distinctly remember the heading saying "snubbed". It seems that the article's been retitled to be somewhat less emotive - but still the whole slant of it is childish.
I truly, truly, truly try my best not to read "news" articles about celebrities, generally speaking... and this has resulted in my being almost a desert in terms of some popular culture. I insist of remaining a desert! I do not want to be a fertile crescent of celebrity tittle-tattle! I refuse! And I'll continue to refuse!

I read enough rubbishy made up stories here on the boards without having to go looking elsewhere 😉

My guilty pleasure is reading the Daily Astonisher... er Mail.
The comments from the Anti Mandate/Vax mob in Canberra had me🤣🤣🤣

Yes, a lot of the news stories are geared to work on people's emotions and influence their opinion one way or another.
I find myself giving a quick once over though to some of the more obscure stories. Often disappointing. The headlines promise amazement but rarely provide it.
Today's one was
Mysterious stone circles that are still baffling experts'.
It was quite interesting actually. The stones, that is. They weren't baffling anyone though, they were just ancient.

I also hate it when they not only publish rubbish stories, but then also highlight random comments on these stories on social media - somebody said this, somebody else said that. Who cares? 😂🤣😅

If I don't recognise the 'celebrities' (photos or names) I don't read them.
I they are about 'influencers' I will NEVER read those.
If they are about some woman who looks fabulous in a bikini in her 50s plus.....no thanks. (This is a favourite topic on Yahoo News.....and it is so boring).
Made up gossip about the Royal Family according to Women's Day or New Idea.....nope.
Science news on the ABC site does distract me at times though. 🙂
