that's lovely Paints but the cynic in me says - You can't eat time. Time won't give a child medical care.....there are millions and millions of people all over the world with nothing but time.

bettering yourself 101

If your job is unsatisfactory and doesn't pay enough, think of employment you'd prefer and retrain.

make money in your spare time, buy others rubbish and do it up for profit, deliver the local paper, sell your crafts, the list is endless.

invest the spare money in something else, stock market, more training etc. Just use your brains.

As for the much maligned Gina, she wasn't sitting around when she turned 17 million into billions and how does anyone know she is not a philanthropist just because she doesn't brag about it.

When did this thread become about bettering yourself?

Gina did get her 'start' from inherited wealth.

What do you do LanguidLady?

How have you bettered yourself?

What employment stream do you prefer?

Which area have you retrained yourself in?

How much money have you made in your spare time....? Doing what and how exactly?

What items of rubbish have you bought for nicks and 'upcycled' into a profitable item? What was your profit margin?

How long did you work as a paper deliverer?.....did you walk?....use a push bike?....a motorbike?....or a vehicle?

What was your rate as a paper/catalogue deliverer?

How long did you work as a paper deliverer? Total length of employ AND hours worked per week?

Once you had saved......what 'something else' did you 'invest' your hard earned money in - after declaring your tax?

Which stocks/bonds/annuities etc did/have you invested in? Which of these are a sure thing?

How much training have you done?

Do you know GR personally?

I reckon most could turn $17 million into much more.

Having access to a bleepload of money and turning it into more does not require any special gifts, talent or brains.

....and giving away some of your money for charitable causes is honourable only if you have little to give IMO, besides, the uber wealthy would claim against tax in these instances.

Interesting to read your respnse.....so far:)

Ha, my kids did junk mail delivery.. few cents a pamphlet. They needed collecting from distributor, folding and delivering to mailboxes. Fine for a bit of pocket money for young teens.
Newsagents deliver the newspaper. Less people buy printed copies of newspapers now.
Selling craft = about $1 per hour for the time taken to make an item. The cost of materials is high too.

Not money spinners those ideas in 2014, maybe 20+ years ago.

I'm a self employed trades person, I bettered myself by going to TAFE and I've made quite a lot of money in my spare time by one of the methods I mentioned.

Go for it paintsy instead of sitting on your computer bagging others.
