Schapelle Corby look at these facts

I'm not saying either way whether she was innocent or guilty but check out this excerpt below:

"In May, 2005, baggage handlers at Sydney Airport were arrested and accused of being paid $300,000 to help smuggle a briefcase of almost 10kg of cocaine. And the date of that was October 8, 2004 - the same day that Corby and her luggage were transiting from Brisbane, through Sydney airport to Bali. Corby's legal team said this added weight to the theory."

I don't understand why the Indonesian legal system did not take this into account. Do we have any law students here? Surely if police caught corrupt workers at the airport on the same day Schapelle was arrested should ring alarm bells? Yes or No?  I think it is reasonable to suspect corrupt baggage handlers could have had something to do with it, maybe? Is this enough proof? Beyond reasonable doubt?

How can anyone be found guilty of an airport drug crime on the same day and route that corrupt airport workers were busted for trying to smuggle drugs? Why was this not important to police prosecutors? Anyone know?

"An investigation into statements made against Michael Corby found those statements to be unjustified. Queensland Police has no evidence to link Michael Corby with involvement in the drug trade".

"He decided not to mark the bag with a chalk X and instead to follow it and see who collected it from the baggage area and then ask for it to be opened.

The rest has become history. A vacuum-sealed plastic bag, the size of a pillow case, was found inside the bag, nestled next to Corby's boogie board."

Of course it was in her possession, onve it was in her possessionn the customs officer asked her/informed her that the bag

was to be inspected.

when you are asked at any airport anywhere in the world "if that is your bag and did you pack it" and you answer yes then whatever is in it is considered yours.

I think her brother carried the bag.?

Ngurah Rai Airport, DenpasarThe holiday begins

After a seven-hour flight, they landed in Bali about 2.30pm local time, stepping out of an air-conditioned cocoon into what seemed like a steam bath.

Spirits were high. Now all the travellers had to do was collect their bags and take a taxi to their hotel, where they had pre-paid rooms and Mercedes would be waiting.

After their bags were unloaded from the canister they passed through an X-ray machine before moving onto the baggage carousel.

By the time Corby's party got through security and immigration, their bags were on the carousel. But not the boogie board. It had been set apart on the floor. Corby was struggling with her bag, so McComb told James to help his sister with the boogie board. Together, they took it to the customs counters where they would exit.

There they were stopped by a customs officer, Igusti Ngurah Nyoman Winata.

The family claimed the book contained several defamatory imputations, including that they were part of a drug syndicate run by Corby's father, Mick Corby, according to court documents.

In April Justice Christine Adamson struck out four of the 12 imputations pleaded by Mercedes Corby, half of Mrs Rose's 10 imputations and all of Mr Corby Jnr's pleadings.

That included the imputation that they were part of a drug ring, and other claims related to Mick Corby and drugs.

A defamatory meaning pleaded by Mercedes Corby, that the book implied she worked as a hostess in the Japanese sex industry, was struck out, with the judge finding the imputation was unlikely to be found when the case goes to trial.

The judge decided that the statements that the complainants claimed to be defamatory were not of a defamatory

nature

The Customs officer who arrested Schapelle Corby nine years ago, I Gusti Ngurah Nyoman Winata, told News Corp Australia his opinion has not wavered since the day he saw 4kg of marijuana in Corby's boogie board bag at Bali Airport.

"Actually I am disappointed if Corby gets parole. People on drugs cases should be given punishment as high as possible," Mr Winata said.

Mr Winata was on duty at Ngurah rai Airport on October 8, 2004 when he saw what appeared to be vegetation matter showing up on the x-ray of a boogie board bag.

He decided not to mark the bag with a chalk X and instead to follow it and see who collected it from the baggage area and then ask for it to be opened.

"Facts" ? Some more here:-

The allegations follow drug trafficking accusations against baggage handlers by Schapelle Corby's defence team in Bali.

But Australian Federal Police Commissioner Mick Keelty said the most recent claims had no bearing on Corby's defence that the drugs in her case were planted by domestic airport baggage handlers in Australia.

"These are baggage handlers who are part of the international syndicate, who are operating to help import the drugs into Australia.

Corby's former lawyer, Robin Tampoe, said that he fabricated the defence theory that Australian baggage handlers could have planted the drugs in Corby's luggage and that former Australian foreign minister  told him he suspected Corby's brothers were behind the convicted drug smuggler's crime

Three years later, in 2007, Vasu Rasiah, the "case co-ordinator" for Schapelle Corby's defense team, appeared on Today Tonight to say that he managed to obtain a sample of the cannabis for testing prior to Corby's conviction, but that Corby did not allow the sample to be tested. This was similar to earlier claims by Mike Keelty, who in 2005 stated that Schapelle Corby's legal team had advised the AFP that they did not wish to have the drugs tested when it became apparent that the results of the tests would be shared with Indonesia.

I believe she is guilty, or guilty by association (another family member) however I think she has done enough time and no amount of cash can make up for the lost years.  One thing Im interested in though is all the compensation money that has been paid to Mercedes over the years and there has been big $$$, has she put that aside for Schapelle?  any of it?
