Scientists Discover 54-Year-Old Message In A Bottle

It will really interest you to know that researchers have discovered a 54-year-old message in a bottle that was hidden for a long period of time inside a formation of rocks.

The message actually predicted the effects of climate change. The message was found while researchers were working on the edge of a glacier in remote Canadian Arctic.

The message was dated July 10, 1959, and had instructions for the person who finds it. The message was written by Paul Walker who was a young Ohio geologist.

Actually, a nearby cairn was built by Walker and his colleagues. They also measured the distance from there to the glacier, which was four feet that time.

Walker predicted that the Ward Hunt Island glacier would be affected by the earth's changing climate. The prediction was made only a year after scientists revealed that global levels of CO2 were rising.

Computer model later on plotted global warning.

The message was discovered by Canadian biologist Warwick Vincent and colleagues when they were studying the area near a glacier on Ward Hunt Island this summer.

Paul Walker actually had concerns over melting of ice. The distance measured by him was about 1.2 meters from a glacier to where he buried the message in a bottle. But in more than 50 years, the distance between the glacier and the bottle has become 101.5 meters.

It would be interesting to know what secrets the antarctic holds, if any, if it became free of snow. Fossils and that sort of thing.

It's already being explored for oil.
