Scott Morrison has refused to sign up to the United Nations migration pact, saying it would compromise Australia's national interests and border security.
In a statement issued this morning, Mr Morrison said the government had already achieved the goals the deal set out.
And, he said, it failed to distinguish between illegal migrants, and those who arrived "the right way".
Australia now joins the United States and others, in rejecting the UN pact.
Good on him! I can see him romping into liberal leadership in the next elections!

Scott will say anything if he thinks there's a vote in it.
I wouldn't vote for him even if he was the only one on the ballot
Vote what you think is right and live with the consequences, marwi.

Not talking about migration policies in particular, just a general comment. I am a bit wary of any pact put up by organisations such as UN, unless they align with our own interests, values & policies.
I guess the reason for that is I have spent the best part of 20 years on an English messageboard and learnt first hand of how the EU governed just about everything. Their courts couldn't do this, couldn't do that.
There is a lot to be said about having freedom & autonomy.
