Sharing a House questions . Your Views

Married couple both working full time with a rough estimate income of $1600 a week take home and a Single mum of one rough income of $600 a week looking at going in to share a house .Married couple wants an extra bedroom for visitors .

Married couple will move to a much nicer area a better house and pay no more then they are currently while single mum already lives in the area and will pay about the same as she is already .

-Married couples electricity is always around the $400 mark while single- mums electricty is only ever 250

Your views on who should pay what and how much ? For example should the rent be split 3 ways or Havles and should electricty be halved or 3 ways ??

The upside is I guess that I can see is ,the  company of other adults , bigger area as she is only in a very  small 2 bedroom unit maybe about $20 - $30 cheaper in rent .Free wireless internet as married couple going to keep house phone with internet that single mum wont have to pay for .

Not having older neighbours living next to her front door who jump out  when someone stops to pick up or drop something up and she goes move you cant park there lol.

Re: Sharing a House questions . Your Views

hi

being a single mum with kids

and having had others stay with us in the past when they asked me

gotta say to be careful and really think about it on both sides

her with kid(how old is the child)

you both no kids not sure of your ages

do you both work fulltime?

does she work fulltime?

is the lease gonna go in all 3 names?

is elect/gas going in all 3 names?

have you ever lived long term with kids?

theirs not only bills to consider, and making sure each person pays they way on time

theirs privacy,noise,attitude,sleep,visitors etc...

gotta say i found it hard having not only people i knew in my home

but strangers to me that they invited over especially around my kids

i lasted 2 months and had them move

i say every adult with money should pay towards rent

with elect/gas it should be each person living their pays a share

even though the child does not work they still use the services

but if you are paying for phone and interent and giving them access to use it when they want without charge

some money should be deducted from the elect/gas or rent to be fair

and have you talked about groceries and other things like that

kitchen access and visitor access.

its a mind field

tara

Re: Sharing a House questions . Your Views

Year ago when I was sharing the biggest issue came down to the shower and bathtub.

Someone used to fill the bathtub to almost overflowing and then lie in it for nearly an hour and apparently I spent way too much time under the shower while the 3rd person was perfect with his, always timed, 2 minute showers.

BTW the toilet was not in the bathroom so lolling in the bathtub or having overly long showers were not stopping anyone from going ot the loo.

That was 2 women and 1 man and I don't think I have ever met a man who thinks it is necessary to spend 7 or 8 minutes under the shower (yes people have timed me) or to lie in a bathtub for an hour.

Will she have to declare the arrangement to Centrelink, and lose some benefits?

Re: Sharing a House questions . Your Views

Would be looking at a 4 bedroom 2 bathroom place so would be no issues i can see for those wanting a pit stop lol..

She shouldnt loose anything from centrelink although yes should would advise of a change but as far as payments go she wouldnt loose anything .

I myself cant see there being anyserious  issues really as they all get along famously and spend a lot of time together now anyway . They all like the same things so i guess thats a bonus .

Yes to whoever asked sorry all 3 adults work married couple both work full time single mum works 5 days a week but not full time hrs i think for her are about 32 a week .
