I had shingles about 6 years ago and still have problems today.
It started in the hairline at the top of my face and then went in a backward C down across my eyelid and into the hairline at the side of my face. It spread down my nose and into my eye.
Apparently the further it goes down your nose the more ongoing problems you will have.
I was blinded in the left eye and it was very scary because I didn't know if I would ever see again. After about 2 months I had full vision.
I was put on the medication because I was borderline as to whether it was too late or not.
I had to have low dose of the medication for about 2 years after the initial onset.
I have nevr been able to wear eye makeup since because the nerves in my eyelids are so raw I can't touch the lid with anything.
Sometimes I wil put my hand up to my head or hair and just touching the skin around the eye will set off the nerve endings.
I have been told I will never fully recover from the shingles and if run down or stressed it flares up but not as bad as the first attack.

that bad before.
Really scary. I'm so sorry this happened to you

OOh bump that is so scary , it's a horrid thing to get and you got it VERY bad

OMG! How awful and frightening that must have been, you suffered terribly and I am so sorry you are still going through it. That's relatively rare for it to continue in that way, you didn't deserve that. Here's hoping that you never have another bout of it xxx

Dear Bump, the worst place to get the shingles is the head and face. Friend of mine had it in the hairline like you, and every so often she was out of touch with anyone. We knew she was having a bad bout again, but there was nothing anyone of us could do to help her.
I was lucky I got the shingles around my waist, and yes, every mow and then it flares up again. I so very much wish the scientists can find a cure for this so very painful illness, but because it is not life threatening they don't get funds to research.

It's unusual that they let you have them as they're not supposed to give them to you any more. Some of them are just a sludgy mess, some are absolutely beautiful and form the most amazing patterns. It's just a shame they are so chalky because some would look great set into jewellery.
