I'm selling a pile of books on ebay and was about to list 2 collections of old boys books (Robinson Crusoe, Treasure Island, Huck Finn etc plus a good Enid Blyton collection). They are published in the 60's and not overly valuable.
I found them on the side of the road about 20 years ago during a council clean up and then I gave them to my son. Each book has the owners name and address in it plus some notes throughout - which books he liked, his comments on the characters and one book he gave to his sister on her birthday with a note saying "I think you will love this book." All very sweet.
Anyway, the name is highly unusual so I googled it. And I have found someone with same name who lives around the block from the original address. So I figure it has to be him. He is a lawyer with the ABC so I now have his email address.
The question is: do I email him and ask him if he wants his books back? Is that too weird? Or do I just ebay them as originally planned?

Def email him. Recently when sorting out my MIL's things I came across a painting that she had purchased. It belonged to a child who had submitted it to the art show so we googled the name and sent it back as we felt it would sentimental value for the family.
I think it would be nice if you just asked, he can only say yes or no and would probably appreciate the gesture.

I'd email him too and include a couple of photos so he knows what you are talking about. 🙂

Yes, I would say contact him Martini. Going through some of his childhood things may end up meaning so much, you never know.

Ok I emailed him
I started it by saying "This may be the weirdest email you will ever get but..."
Let's see if he responds.

Dammit - that was going to be my next idea - to come up with a Subject Line that wouldn't send it straight to spam or scare the bejeezes out of him :^O

Martini, was it you whose dad was looking for some way to leave his mark on the world? And I suggested a Guiness Record?
If so, just wondering how he was going and if he had found a record he wanted to try for? Sorry if I've got the wrong person, my memory's pretty crummy lately.

I'm still waiting for a response...

sorry monsters - only just saw this.
Yes my dad is still thinking about his dilemma. But he's less melancholy these days so it isn't such an issue. Or at least he doesn't bring it up much.
I'm still always on the search for something for him though.

Did you put your full name on the email? He may be googling you now to make sure you aren't a deranged person.:-D
