Should We Ban Australia Day As Well?

We are after all celebrating the landing of the First Fleet on January 26th 1988...

Aldi pulls 'racist' T-shirts after online outrage

Discount supermarket chain Aldi has pulled an Australia Day T-shirt and singlet from its stores amid claims on social media that designs featured on the garments were racist.

Complaints that the range of promotional T-shirts with 'AUSTRALIA EST 1788' logos were racist led to people targeting @ALDIAustralia on Twitter and calling for them to be withdrawn.

The T-shirts and singlets were scheduled to go on sale on this week in the lead up to January 26.

Twitter users slammed the design as racist and culturally insensitive to indigenous Australians, who inhabited the continent for thousands of years before Europeans arrived.

Perhaps we should abandon the celebration altogether.

In NSW, a shop keeper has the right to check your bags that are above certain size or in situations I mentioned earlier.   I honestly thought that was common knowledge.

It doesn't make it feel right just because they can, it is like someone going through your knickers drawer, it's personal Cat Very Happy

Re: Should We Ban Australia Day As Well?

There are more small things to pinch in a supermarket than most stores probably.

I have seen eggs missing from egg boxes, small empty juice bottles on shelf.. theft while in store.. shop lifting happens.. why wouldn't a store do bag checks?

Because it makes people feel uncomfortable, that's why. Most people are not thieves

Even though you have a cat smiley at the end of that sentence, it is a silly comment. Don't shop at any stores that dare to ask you to open your bag.

I DON'T FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE IF STORE STAFF WANT TO LOOK IN MY BAGS AS I LEAVE THEIR STORE. They have a job to do.. preventing shoplifting benefits everyone (prices go up to cover losses through shop lifting).

Back to Australia Day comments now, from me.

I don't mind at all.    I can't think of anyone I know that has objections to bag inspections.

Re: Should We Ban Australia Day As Well?

no they don't need anywhere near the amount of staff as woolies or coles, restocking is done by a one person using a palette jack. so no nightfill not to mention all the people involved in putting up, moving around etc the shelves. have a read what dick smith says about auldi, i couldn't agree more.
