Should global warming be a hush topic when there are severe bushfires?

I don't think so, what do others think?

total and utter contempt and disgust is what comes  to mind over the comments here and the topic

The current NSW bushfires are being compared by fire officials, with the 2001 ones for severity.. that was over 10 years ago.

i heard the current bush fires had an extremely dangerous element - strong warm dry winds

So did the 2001,  NSW bushfires.. I remember them well.. very hot, dry, strong gusty winds. Started on Christmas Day 2001.

i suspect both attributed to global climate change

Signatures suck.

I know many Greens who are members of the RFS.....working on the ground in tthe thick of it.

Not only in their local area but in far flung areas in emergencies.

One of them was a Greens candidate and is deputy chief of a local brigade.

Do you financialy support or are a member of the RFS Sarah?

As an environmentalist, when I was younger  I too was a working member of the RFS.

I find your uniformed comments and posts appalling.

I don't see anything wrong with the discussion in this thread. Those extra large cartoons are disruptive.

Incidentally Sarah....a backburn is used when a bushfire is already in progress to stop it spreading..

A backburn is not a reduction/prescribed burn which is fuel reduction prior to a bushfire.

You don't seem to understand this judging by the graphic posts. .

When did the greens ban back burning?

Are the greens supposed to wear a uniform when fighting fires so we all know they're greens?

When were the greens ever in power to ban back burning?

There was a fire officer on TV this week who said the past winter did not provide adequate opportunity for as much back burning preventative actions and preperation as they would have liked. He didn't blame greens. He blamed the weather.
