"Qatar has pulled out of the women's basketball competition at the Asian Games after refusing to abide by international regulations preventing them from wearing hijabs.
The Qatari players had been asked to remove their hijabs before their opening group game against Mongolia on Wednesday, but chose to forfeit the match instead.
According to International Basketball Federation (FIBA) rules, Article 4.2.2 dictates players cannot wear "headgear, hair accessories and jewellery".

I think if they have that rule in place, it's a known rule, fair enough.
Freedom to choose, you have to admire their strength to make that decision and stick to it. Obviously important to the team.

How many of you would feel comfortable with someone walking down the street wearing a balaclava and a huge coat that could conceal an AK47
don't you think a person wearing a cassock
and a face mask would look suspicious?
Just a tad julia, just a tad.
If the balaclava was out of the equation then the AK47 could still be hidden but at least we would know who shot us.
Personally it is the hiding of identity that I don't like.
yes, i think that was the whole point
of the initial question

Looking from a different angle.
How about on Xmas Eve could anyone properly identify, a fully bearded Santa Claus coming down the street with a sack and a red nosed reindeer pulling a heavily laden sleigh of packages.

yes, the law banning face covering
in public would have to apply to everyone.
it would be up to individual shopping centres
etc to make sure they are aware of who would
be playing the role of santa - i imagine. LOL
