I'm a bit surprised that more "leftists" don't publicly condemn this medieval, oppressive dress-form, seeing as how leftists, by definition, are less likely to be led into belief of some super-being in the sky who saves or kills at whim, either deliberately, or through neglect.
Leftist are more likely to see through the religions and their hype and their attempt at social control.
It puzzles me why more "leftists" don't speak out in defense of those oppressed by patently paternalistic, b/s religions.

I take your point, am*3.
The leftists in France are a bit different to our home-grown breed, aren't they?

You would have to be pretty naive to assume that women wear the burqa due to male influence only.
Of the small proportion of women who wear the burqa, some might be due to male domination. In the same way that in Western culture, some women get boob jobs due to male domination.
But to make the WESTERN assumption that women do not have a choice is arrogant.
And what you seem te failing to to see is that by saying we should ban the burqa because it is oppressive is an irony.

If people object to burqa wearing and face concealment etc, perhaps they might want to do something in the way of assisting the women they "care" so much about and stage a protest or take up a petition, maybe even start a group for emancipation of these women.

So you're comment re others who "care" about the women who are subjugated, by putting the word "care" into inverted commas is that because you think they don't care about the plight of women all over the world? not just in Australia? because if so then give us your thoughts on posters who do care about the subjugation of women.

Iap* - how do they get alcohol in countries where there is a total ban (tourists not able to get it either)?
The same way munitions find there way into Gaza. Where there's a will there's a way.

It might be men under all that black material. Why do we think it's a female under that black material?

Yes, already got that from iap*s posts.
Do we always have to account for the 1% or less of people who think a man may be under a burqa? I think not.
Burqa's are blue anyway.

Ever seen one of these being worn in Australia?
