Should the Burqa and Niqab be banned in Australia?

In mainstream media ( in print or online versions) and TV news (live or online) where Abbotts photos end up in. They don't publish photos or interview random older men in speedos but they do publish/interview Abbott in his speedos.

Googling for  images is going looking for them... Not the same as having them appear in the newspaper one always reads or on the TV news.

i bet they would if they did something the media considered to be newsworthy and were wearing their speedos at the time.

It is ok, I don't think that anyone is condemning you or anyone else for finding the sight of a middleaged man in speedos confronting, my first comment was that I couldn't understand why it was such a big deal, so I am just trying to work out why men in sopeedos are confronting for others, that's all.

Is it confronting to see all men in speedos, regardless of their physique, or is it just the middleaged ones or is it just the Prime Minister?

Do you feel the same way about middleaged women in a bikini or those not wearing shorts down to their knees?

At least the Prime Minister has the physique to wear speedos.

Why quote my question before the photo then. I am only interested to know if anyone has seen the blue burqa here (with mesh over eyes) and if anyone has seen women wearing it to the beach in AUSTRALIA... I can google images.............

muppet-d - I am not interested in seeing photos of our PM in speedo's splashed in our mainstream news, I am hardly likely to google or look at links of other middle aged men wearing them.

The thread is about the Burqa - should it be banned (is it confronting to others, if so why?)  Any reference to our PM in speedo's is a side issue..... not something I intend to go on about anymore.

I think this is ridiculous and incredibly unsafe. Is that really swimming attire? Boardies are a big enough PIA in the surf. They fill up with water and drag you down and impede mobility, but imagine these poor people having a swim, or even if they were accidentally knocked over by a wave whilst paddling in the shallows, or worse, caught in a rip. I wonder if they are strong enough swimmers to be able to cope whilst weighed down with all that waterlogged material.

Surely there has to be some element of common sense and consideration for safety? Fair enough, wear as much as you want whilst safely sitting up on the beach, but stay away from the water.
