Carnita Matthews is so 2011. A positive result of her case we (NSW & WA) got a new law re powers to demand people to remove their headwear/face coverings by specified authorities.
If she is the only example people have for their view the burqa should be banned anywhere in public, it is not going to cut it. As the new law will prevent that happening again ( person with face coverings not being identified).
Everyday people commit driving & other offences, get aggro at police...tell lies...

no icy, this was not what I said. Women that choose to dress in burqas have the freedom of choice to do so in Australia. To then insist that they sit in a glass box and be segregated from other visitors at Parliament House is as ridiculous as insisting and ruling that dog owners place a paper bag on their dogs before taking them out in public. Maybe I drew this analogy and to 'ridiculous' based on one of my personal loves -animals and the beautiful dog 🙂 I love animals and I love dogs. I like some people too. Respect for other peoples' culture and religious beliefs should include respect for how they choose to attire themselves. Some people dress their pets in clothing.....which I find ridiculous too. Most dogs have fur and don't need to wear clothing.
Some people though should wear paper bags on their heads and should not be allowed out in public ......I am not referring to those women that choose to wear burquas and certainly not Muslim women, just so we are clear.

Thanks go to you for reminding me. We do speak English in Australia.
A contribution from a few pages back: That's not a burqa...polksaladallie
Burqa is an Arabic word:
(Hindi; burqa, from Arabic; burqa)
Strange that you don't shy away from using foreign words when it suits YOU. That got me to thinking about a cure for hypocrisy.

No we don't. It's so distorted from what is taught as English around the world that it's unrecognisable.
What you speak here is as close to the English language as Dutch is to German.

yeah, sorta funny unless you are a foreigner trying hard to learn English in which case it becomes a never ending nightmare.

give me kudos or not it doesn't matter. I don't care.
Just consider that it might be cricket to set an example and speak English yourself before you demand that foreigners do so.
