England has a problem and I think it will spread.

I believe that if a School has specific uniform rules, then all students must wear the same uniform regardless of where they came from.

The problem is that when that rule was enforced in France many girls were withdrawn from schools and higher education.

that ban applies to all religious symbols.
was it only the muslim girls that were
withdrawn from schools? if so,then you
really need to ask why.

I should have said "withdrew" as in the program I saw about it it was the girls'decision, The interviewer did ask the girls (uni students or senior high school?) and they said that they do not like to be told what to do, and that it was matter of principle, as other students could wear what ever they wanted, even if some of the closing was not exactly appropriate for school. . The thing is if somebody would defy the ban and wear their cross or star of david on chain under their clothing nobody would notice. Some girls wore their scarf to he gate of the school and then took it off.
I understand the motive, French are so proudly secular, but I do not think that it is wise to make such an issue out of it. I always wondered about the priorities when in my daughter's high school almost every week there was a reminder that although the uniform is red, navy and white and there was choice of red or navy jumper and t-shirts, the ribbons for girls' hair had to be white and so were the socks, and some students, horror of horrors would tie their hair with red or navy ribbon and wore sock of wrong colour!!!! OMG Just imagine if somebody wore a green ribbon

This is not about the head scarf, but about the veil that covers the face.
Please read the full article, then make a judgment.

that's right.
The French law on secularity and conspicuous religious symbols in schools bans wearing conspicuous religious symbols in French public (i.e. government-operated) primary and secondary schools.

doesn't the ban apply to everyone?
the way i read it is that they can
all wear whatever they want except
conspicuous religious symbols.

did anyone from other religions
have a problem and withdrew?

who made an issue out of
it?

The principal is the same. And i am glad I do not have to make a judgement. i wish nobody would feel the need to wear niqab or burqa, but i personally would not be dictating to them. As I said, like in France banning the niqab is more likely harm the girls. The girls in France were mostly French born, and I wonder if those in UK are newcomers of if they are also born there. I do not recall seeing any niqabs among the refugees walking across Europe.

Should the niqab (full veil) be worn in Schools?
No. If the school has a uniform code, then that should be adhered to.

It's odd that people are expected to turn up at lecture/class times; observe lunch time when it arrives; report for lecture/class after lunch; go home when school/uni is finished for the day yet they don't like to be told what to do. Have any of them refused to go home at the end of the day stating that they won't be told that lectures/classes are over for the day?
