Riot police fire water cannon at protesters in Brussels

Belgian riot police used water cannons to control hundreds of demonstrators who gathered in central Brussels after ignoring an official call for a postponement of solidarity marches following the bomb attacks on Tuesday.

White-helmeted riot police followed by water cannon vehicles on Sunday steered protesters away from the city's colonnaded stock exchange building where wreaths and flowers had been laid out in a tribute to the victims of the attacks.

Protesters shouted slogans condemning this week's attacks, which killed 31 people and injured scores of others, and expressing solidarity with the victims.

The Eurocrats and in particular the Belgians fired barbs at us over events surrounding the sinking of the SIEV-X. We were to blame for the over-crowding on the SIEV-X. How unedifying to now see the Belgians taking to the streets to protest anything. What happened to their smug superiority; their conceited self-belief? How distressing seeing them take to the streets like rabble. We expected better from our betters.

Those Hotheads ignored he request about postponing the protest.

Hundreds of people gathering in one place is a sure target for more carnage by terrorists.

In such a case the number of Police would be outnumbered and helpless to protect all protesters.

Some people just don't think. They just get angry and act impulsively without realising in how much danger a great gathring can become and more lifes to be lost.

I understand their feelings, but I can not blame the Police for trying to disperse such an angry crowd.

It is well known in Europe now that the Terrorists are planing several synchronised attacks all over Europe.

Public protests are not only useless and only hinder proper investigations, as well as putting people in danger.

Appalled'
One witness, Adam Liston, told the BBC there had been a "really positive atmosphere" in the square, as people crowded round the floral tributes in solidarity with the victims.
"Then a bunch of skinheads just turned up, marched into the square, and started a major confrontation with the peace protesters. They got in the face of the protesters and police. They set off flares and chanted and it was getting quite ugly," he said.
He added that although it had been "pretty non-violent", it looked like it "could have kicked off".
The Belgian prime minister and the city mayor have strongly condemned the behaviour.-BBC

What a nonsense, how could this gathering hinder investigation?  People gathered, they did not march.  The march would have meant thousands, if not hundreds of thousands people marching, and was called off.  People were just paying respect and showing the terrorists that they cannot scare us.  The trouble makers were the violent skinheads with their fascist salutes, that attacked  the other group, and were dealt with by the police with water cannons.

Are you suggesting that we should all stay at home from now on?  Maybe people should stop flying, maybe they should not have gone to church over Easter because according you such gathering could be target of terrorists?  Exactly what the terrorists want.
