Sineater - psst...in here

I just watched Materchef  US Season 5 Episode 1

(Thought I better start a new thread and not hijack the Australian one)

Plus we can add Hell's Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares to this one too.

I've just never cared for the sweetness and texture of beets. Both my sisters and my mom actually love them on salads. So I've tried them on occasion, thinking my taste buds might have changed...but they're still not my favorite.

If I was going to try them on a burger though, could you get them put on at a restaurant there without it being pickled? I've never liked sweet pickles(only dill) so I think I definetly wouldn't like sweet pickled beets either.

And whats the difference between beet root and beets?

geez,i suppose you'll tell me you eat creamed corn next!

Never actually had it before.

Although I know it's one of the great debates. : )

Creamed corn smells and looks like throw up to me. Blerk.

Canned beets are pickled. The beets( they are all roots) from the garden, are peeled and cooked without any sugar, or vinegar. They are delicious.

Okay. I knew that beets were a root, but I kept hearing 'beets' and 'beet roots' and it sounded like two different things were being discussed.

I love beets -- pickled or not.  The only problem I have is they stain your skin -- and everything else they come into contact with.

BTW sin,  I always use food gloves when making that beet(root) salat.

I grate it, not slice it.  So ya don't want purple hands for days

It's not a sweet tasting salad either.  Goes even better on our burgers.   lol

Oh, I forgot to mention that bacon should be on that Aussie burger as well

Well, sure -- but you have to slice or cut them at some point.  They're just not the easiest vegetable to work with.
