So where are the Sri Lankans?

These people disappear off the face of the earth and we are given no clue as to whether they are safe or dead or back in India or sent to their death in Sri Lanka?

And aside from the ABC and the SMH, there hase been barely a murmur by the Australian public.

Have we completely lost our compassion??

Can someone help me with the logic in this?
If this government sends Iraqi and Afghan asylum seekers coming from Indonesia back to Indonesia, why is it sending Sri Lankan asylum seekers coming from India (as I understand it) back to Sri Lanka?
There seems to no consistency in this disgusting policy.

Because India refused to take them back.

The Sri Lankan Security Forces (as I understand that is whose hands these people are now in) welcomed them for "questioning".

Should also point out that even though 2 years ago BOTH sides of politics were considering sanctions against SriLanka and condeming them for human rights abuses, we have recently helped them with aid for the purchase of 2 navy boats.

Fairfax and other media organisations, as well as Human Rights Watch, the Human Rights Law Centre, the Asian Human Rights Law Centre, have documented instances of returned asylum seekers being tortured by police and the military.

So we are happy to condemn theire human rights but equally happy to send people back that will surely be subject to abuse.

I find it surprising that 68,232 individuals would have botheredto  respond to that poll at all. I wonder if ninemsm has a system in place to ensure nobody can set up a program to 'cyber vote' multiple times.

TGSE I was wondering that myself I have never voted in these polls but while I was at work I voted no when I got home I again voted no and it let me, so you can get a group of people to go on different computers and keep voting yes as many times as they can as long as there is a different IP address.

Hardly makes a fair and accurate poll if one person can vote more than once, especially taking into consideration I have been able to vote twice, and if I want I can go on my OHs computer and vote no a 3rd time.  You will probably find that the libs are paying people to vote in their favour after all they have played a lot of dirty tricks already.

And before any Liberal voters try and bite my head of I am not a labor voter but I am a human being and find the governments stance on refuges totally abhorrent.

Yep. I just voted no three times just by resetting my cookies. So you don't even need to switch computers or IP addresses.

It would be interesting to see the result of a poll that asked if the people should be sent back and handed over to be imprisoned and tortured.  It's too easy to demonise them by always portraying them as illegal economic refugee queue jumpers.  I think if that were the case they could get 457 visas.

That is interesting Martini I did not think of that so someone can sit on their computer all day and keep voting yes just by resetting their cookies. You can add a lot of yes votes in an 8 hours period, that makes the poll even more of a joke and their are people out their that believe the results.
