So where are the Sri Lankans?

These people disappear off the face of the earth and we are given no clue as to whether they are safe or dead or back in India or sent to their death in Sri Lanka?

And aside from the ABC and the SMH, there hase been barely a murmur by the Australian public.

Have we completely lost our compassion??

Not quite true, I believe they were mentioned at the Bust the Budget rallies today, the editorial in the AGE is very good, the Guardian, the ALP has finally had a bit to say as has the Greens and others. Only some seem to have mislaid their compassion - although some probably never had any for others from elsewhere.

The Age is the Melbourne equivelent of the SMH. And I agree the Guardians Aussie arm is doing well with its coverage.

But personally I don't believ the ALP is saying enough.

It is all being left to the Greens and refugee advocate groups.

agreed on the ALP, need more pressure on them to change their position. There is a good church group as well. It's taken us 14 years to get to such a low point. The editorial in the age isn't in the smh.

I read somewhere they are being processed at sea. Secrecy surrounds their fate.An advocate for the refugees has claimed 11 on board were subjected to torture in Sri Lanka.

no sensible person would consider it "being processed", illegally disappeared I would call it, although abetz insists they don't disappear people....i don't believe him.

They were "processed" at sea, and taken to Sri Lanka, even though they did not come from there (they had already fled to India years ago).

No thanks, I'd rather do the washing-up.

The Tamil Refugee Council claims at least 11 of those on the boat near Christmas Island have been tortured by Sri Lanka's intelligence services, adding there must have been more people on the ship in a similar situation.

does it come under the heading of no more boat arrivals?
