NO BOATS or ILLEGALS since December 19 2013
Well done to the Abbott govt
No people-smuggling venture had succeeded in landing asylum seekers on Australia for more than four months, the government says.
In the latest update on Operation Sovereign Borders, Immigration Minister Scott Morrison said on Saturday that vigorous border protection activities was deterring illegal boat arrivals, even into the post-monsoon period when weather conditions usually improve.
Mr Morrison said the practice of turning back unauthorised boats remained in effect.
"Anyone seeking to enter Australia illegally by boat will be faced with the same policies those who previously attempted illegal entry met," he said in a statement.
Mr Morrison said no one had reached Australia since December 19 and that continued this month. But 3351 on 47 boats arrived in April 2013 under the former Labor government. (a Labor Failure their border policy)
The latest Operation Sovereign Borders operational update says there are now 1281 in the processing centre on Manus Island and 1177 on Nauru, making a total of 2458.
Another 1405 remain on Christmas Island. During the last week, eight asylum seekers were transferred to Nauru.
Seven unauthorised maritime arrival transferees were voluntarily returned to Iran.
Since Operation Sovereign Borders started on September 18, 220 asylum seekers have voluntarily returned to their home countries.

The campaign by the Australian government is accompanied by the slogan: "No way. They will not make Australian home".
A section of the DIBP website also says: “Don’t waste your money – people smugglers are lying.
The Australian government has instructed the Australian Defence Force to turn back boats where it is safe to do so,”
in what appears to be the first admission that the Government has ordered boats of asylum seekers to be turned back

I'm surprised you haven't found a c&p to educate all of us further what many of us think, that the government has done an outrstanding job of "Stopping The Boats" They have done exactly what they said they would do.
But if you feel we all need more c&p to "educate" us further on anything at all.......

One area where the government has been successful, so far, in avoiding the European catastrophe is in illegal immigration of low-skilled people claiming refugee status.
All across Europe a near universal recognition among government officials that the refugee system, which had been set up to provide refuge from political persecution, was being gamed and had become instead a method of mass, illegal, low-skilled immigration.
But no European policymaker was confident they could do anything effective about it.
Australia, in contrast, has a superbly successful, huge, legal immigration program and, for the moment at least, has stopped the illegal arrival in boats, which at its peak was running at 50,000 people a year.
So lets hear it for the successful program that has stopped the illegal immigration which is ably aided and abetted by the world wide net of criminals, to access countries simply for economic reasons.
The majority of the illegal immigrants under the Labor regime are now welfare immigrants, they got just what Labor offered them and took it up in the thousands.

I'm not surprised...facts don't matter do they?
Misinform mislead,lie,deceive is the operative

The only people who misinformed, lied and fabricated was Rudd and Gillard. They lied to us for the whole sorry time they lost control of the borders and we saw hundreds dead and thousands of unfettered illegal immigration into the country.
We are now left with over 50,000 illegal immigrants living in community and detention centres costing billions and everybody knows they are not fleeing persecution they are country shopping and Labor put the welcome mat out.
There is no more sympathy for this failure, Australians know they were played for fools and Labor lost the election for this. This seems to be something that the left on here just can't seem to grasp, cannot come to terms with, playing the cruel card and regurgitating the Greens venom.
Re posting the lies and conjuring tricks by illegal immigrants is now seen for what it is, naked political advantage by those disappointed that Labor is no longer a viable party.

Most people I know didn't swallow that kind of garbage pre-election...they are incredulous that any 'Australian' can swallow it and defend this Government now without feeling total embarrassment and shame
or without a very large pay packet

I am incredibly proud of the way they have stopped the illegal immigration into Australia. I have no qualms about the way they are doing it just as the illegal immigrants have no qualms, conscience or violence about their country shopping and lying to us to get here.
So if there's to be shame and chagrin to be felt it's labor because this failure of theirs saw them lose power by a staggering majority.
Australians have spoken at the ballot box loud and clear.

Australia's asylum seeker obsession puts democracy at risk
Scott Morrison's creation of a single border force confirms it: asylum seeker policy is dominating the working agenda of the government and its departments. An inquiry is inevitable
Today, in his address at the Lowy Institute, immigration minister Scott Morrison announced the creation of the Australian border force, a "single integrated border protection agency" of customs and immigrations assets – including detention centre management. A commissioner, to lead the agency, will report directly to Morrison and “pick up where Operation Sovereign Borders leaves off”.
This latest announcement shows that far from being on the periphery of Australian politics, asylum seeker policy is now at its centre. It has taken on a life of its own and now, to varying degrees, dictates the working agenda of a number of key government departments and agencies. The overwrought reaction to what in reality is the movement of a small number of people has in effect created a de-facto "mega department" in Canberra, informal but central to the government's agenda, and not overly concerned with the rule of law.
Refugees legitimately seeking asylum, for that is what they are doing, do not constitute a security threat. Yet Morrison, acting on the hysteria generated by Tony Abbott, has chosen to couch asylum seekers' legitimate quest for freedom in terms of an invasion.
