I've thought about this in the past and I find it extremely difficult to decide if a past criminal history should be disclosed before a trial.
On the one hand, you have human nature, where some people might pre-judge.
But on the other hand, I am not sure it is perfectly fair on the victims, when you get someone who can go around raping or invading homes or bashing, and that past history is never 'put together', as it were. is a jury really seeing an action in context? I don't think so.
I don't have any answers by the way.
I don't know that i am 100% happy with the jury system anyway. And I am definitely not 100% happy with the way some people in the system are sentenced. And I am appalled at what is actually going on in the jail system.
