"re:: tiles being stacked up was not something I caught along the way. The pics look like there's only one missing and another dislodged. So what tiles were stacked up?"
Sorry, several people have mentioned 'stacked up' and the OP said that the photo was taken AFTER BIL have replaced some of the tiles, and the original photo which showed more of the hole and removed tiles would not load.... so ....
the hole was bigger than the pic shows. BIL (builder) said it was big enough to be able to slide into, but it didnt appear that anyone had been in there.
along with the stacking and the weight of the tiles for him to re lodge he does not believe it was nature.
when I zoomed into the pic of the tiles I could see a nail hole min one or 2, I remember someone asking earlier. Not sure how BIL went about fixing though cos I was at work.
he also said that it was very dry inside and we'd had a big rain Monday afternoon (hail in parts of western Sydney) so it was between late Mon night and early hours of wed when it was done.
luckily it was noticed and fixed as we have had rain again here overnight and currently.

That's scary Kylie. The fact that they were moved sometime in the wee small hours of the night whilst you were sleeping.
Definitely sounds like a human moved those tiles and not wind or wildlife.
I know you say/think that your ex wouldn't/couldn't harm you, but so many other women who have been stalked/attacked by ex's would have thought the very same thing.
Please be very careful and perhaps look into a panic button by your bed/some sort of security as mentioned above.
One never knows what might snap in someones mind as a result of something minor and I would say your ex is someone who could 'snap'.

Don't know if I missed something?
I think that what Bob is saying is that everyone is too quick to jump to conclusions when there is most likely an innocent answer.
I will say it again - tiles sliding off a roof can stack themselves until the weight becomes too much and they completely slide off.
The other thing is why would someone go to the trouble of stacking them and then not put them back?
And if you are going to stack them you'd stack them above the hole or to the side cause you would be 'working' underneath the hole for balance. And really you would only need 6-8 tiles to be moved to make a hole big enough to get in and it sounds like more were moved.
And looking at your photo, some of the tiles away from the hole have already started slipping - if someone had gone to the trouble of dislodging a tile, they would have lifted it not slid it downwards.
Personally I think everyone (including your own family) has jumped to conclusions because of you situation and is scaring you without true cause.
If you were still with your husband, would you be more likely to explore natural reasons for the hole?

I'll also add that moving tiles is a noisy business particularly in the dead silence of the night.

yes if anyone had removed them during the night you would have heard it.....plus heard anyone walking on the roof. tiles move when stood on creaking even if bare footed.
