Every child at Majella Catholic Primary School received two pairs of shiny new shoes yesterday, thanks to the efforts of teenager Sean Levy.

It's not that generous when you consider the cost of uniforms, fees and books.

May be they spend it on electriciy and gas bills, rent or mortgage, medical bills, even food! Not everyone has spare money and sometimes bills come in at inconvenient times. 

As previously mentioned, what an inspiring young man with a wonderful heart. Instead of querying the parents on where they spent their money he just did what he thought would be a good deed to help out. Interesting concept hey?

I think its awesome that compassion and empathy are live and well in the world today!!  Good on him, to give so freely and willingly!

it is a catholic school.   Where was their christian spirit?

Why didn't the school do anything before this?

The children now have two pairs of shoes by kind donation by a young man. What are they going to wear when those shoes wear out? Thi s a short term fix, pat on the back for the kind donor. Not going to provide shoes for these kids in future years.

I am more concerned that so many children don't have shoes to wear long term, than a 5 second how wonderful this donation is comment. How does that help them next time their shoes wear out?

The school, community, businesses need to fundraise or donate ongoing to help these children.

Lots of low income people buy their children's school shoes from places like Kmart at a cheap price. At $400 approx p.a. in the past for the school kids bonus for each primary school child that is more than enough to cover one pair of shoes. More than 1 child in a family, higher rate for secondary adds up to a lot per household to cover other school items... The SchoolKids bonus is not intended for electricity or other household expenses.

Perhaps it gives the families a bit of saving time? so they can buy shoes.

$400 would be all spent on a uniform in a school like that. The school also offers assistance to those who can't afford full fees so I guess they can't provide shoes as well.

None of that is of any consequence, in relation to saying well done to that young man!
