South Australia Labor didnt win

Here we go again - after three years of a Federal minority ALP government "propped" up by two "independents" representing conservative seats the ALP in SA on only 47% of the two party preferred vote is now propped up by a single independent whos electorate is a very conservative one (Labor got what 8% of the vote there?)...

No matter how the diehards try and sugar coat it SA labor didnt win, they may be in power but thats by default only and can not be called a victory at all.

Labor lost 3-4 seats, they got less votes than the Libs and the biggest kick in the teeth for them is they now have to now rely on an independent and be held hostage to him.    Another Oakeshot and Windsor. Geoff Brock is a turncoat and  goes against his conservative electorate for a few pieces of silver as this is his last term as their member after this.

On a 2PP basis, the Liberals resulted 54.7% vs Labor's 45.3%. Even higher than any opinion poll was actually suggesting.

The people of SA dont want labor but  due to the weird gerrymander voting system and a turncoat independent the people will be forced to endure another 4 years of chaos.

Re: South Australia Labor didnt win

that may not be correct ..?

A Mandate. What on Earth is a Mandate?

mandate

Earlier this week I posted this comment on Facebook:

“To claim that you have a policy mandate when almost half of the population voted against you is an absurdity”

When someone questioned as to why I felt the conservatives didn’t have a mandate, I followed up with this:

“If you called an election on one explicit policy and everyone knew that it was specifically about that policy and you won. I would say you had a mandate. When in an election there are a multitude of policies I hardly think everyone would agree with all that party’s policies. Even if you voted for that party. Therefore it is ludicrous to claim a mandate on every one of them.

Tony Abbott primed for a double dissolution on carbon pricing
Oct 16, 2013

Tony Abbott will have the first half of a constitutional trigger for a double-dissolution election in place by Christmas, after announcing plans to present his carbon price repeal legislation this year.

The move keeps open the chances of another election in the first half of 2014 if the eight-bill package is rejected in December as expected and then rejected a second time by a hostile Senate in March or April.
