Spoon Rests! What A Totally Superflous Kitchen Item!

I often see them in the op shops and think pffft, what a useless item. As if you couldn't use a saucer or whatever you have at hand while you're cooking. Making bolognese tonight I just rested the spoon on the side of the can.

Re: Spoon Rests! What A Totally Superflous Kitchen Item!

My rice cooker instruction book for brown rice is 1 cup rice  to 1 3/4 cups of water... I tried that and it wasn't cooked enough.

thank am, I'll try that.

I'm pretty sure my instruction book said 1 1/2 cups of water to each cup of rice, maybe I should have double checked. I'll try the 2-1 ratio and see how it goes.

I've always used the i cup rice to 1/2 cup water ratio, Punch. White rice, that is

"hon,do you understand  the definition of the word rinse? no professional would EVER leave bleach in the drain,or meat blood of ANY kind. as for the stand,if you've ever been in a real kitchen, you'd know how those are treated. sorry if that offends you,but i live in the real world."

Hi Sin 🙂

no, how would you have offended me? you weren't to know my background. or that we do not as a rule use bleach here for the kitchen sink. Crikey should have filled you in.

and it's real cute to be called hon Heart

They must all work differently, I use 1-1 for white rice and it works for me.

Re: Spoon Rests! What A Totally Superflous Kitchen Item!

OMG I dont own a spoon rest, just plonk the spoon on my bench, never wash my rice, never put oil or salt in my pasta or rice, never put salt in any of my cooking, never put anything down my sink apart from detergent and water ...... what hope is there for me LOL

Lol at punch.

I am in the middle of a risotto (unwashed rice) at the moment and my spoon is being plonked down here there and everywhere - no spoonrest!

so how was it? did the grooblies add extra flavour?

It was delish - honey roasted butternut pumpkin and lemon risotto with fresh parsley sprinkle.

No grooblies.

PS. I picked the parsley in the dark from the garden and didn't wash that either...

Re: Spoon Rests! What A Totally Superflous Kitchen Item!

At least I got a good tip on washing rice, I didn't know you could do that. Will do!

I wash the tops of all cans and when using a can opener don't cut all the way off....it pops up a little, then lift(keeps it from falling in, which I see a lot of people do.)

As far the tops of soda cans...just think about the warehouse worker/delivery guy sneezing/coughing on them and dripping sweat on them.

Hard to believe people could end up arguing over spoon rests, lol. They just add to the things that need to be washed.
