I often see them in the op shops and think pffft, what a useless item. As if you couldn't use a saucer or whatever you have at hand while you're cooking. Making bolognese tonight I just rested the spoon on the side of the can.

This whole thing seems very biased to me! Why only spoons? How about a knife rest, or even more importantly, a fork rest. For instance, you could have a fork rest with words printed on it saying, "Hey, mate! Give your fork a rest!" You may laugh, but it is very difficult to come up with fork humor.

as seen in the pics back there, some forks come with their own rests built in
as for the rest
forked if I know
I just thought of one probably suited for gifts at a bacheklors party though
"rest your fork here" written on the rester which could be a shape like they make different shapes for salt and pepper shakers an stuff, or make those german beer mugs with faces on them, or like in my utencil holder back there with the tongue poking out

Saucepans already come with a spoon holder

Spoon rest.. Pffffft.. As if I need more things that won't get washed cluttering up my kitchen sink
I usually just use the top of the pan

bring water to the boil before adding pasta, bit iof oil and salt to the water too
