Stephen Fry's Fiance

Is Stephen Fry's Fiance Too Young For Him?

Respected British actor and writer Stephen Fry announced his engagement on Twitter in recent days, and most comments were congratulatory until overnight there wave been more criticisms into Stephen’s partner’s age.

In a post on Twitter, Fry said: “Oh. It looks as though a certain cat is out of a certain bag…I’m very, very happy of course but had hoped for a private wedding. Fat chance!”

57-year-old Stephen Fry is set to marry 27-year-old Elliott Spencer – a gap of 30 years. The difference in age may be inconsequential to some, but it’s the fact that Elliott looks much younger than 27 that has had chins wagging.

But is it really anyone else’s business? Should it really matter how old each person is and the size of the age gap in the couple? Or is there a line?

Elliott’s parents (who are the same age as Stephen) have given the happy couple their blessing and said they were over the moon, yet some have been using this as a basis for their insults.

It begs the question – if it were a woman dating a man 30 years her junior, would there be much of a fuss? Or what about an older man dating a younger woman? I doubt it.

Instead of focusing on his gender, age or sexual preference, we can’t deny that two people in love is a beautiful thing. Stephen might actually make people realise that scrutiny over these things is not going to stop him from marrying the one he loves.Fry-Elliott1.jpg

Oh Stephen...

No different to Geoffrey Edelsten, I guess, lol

So you spread salacious gossip with no idea whether it is true or not?

Um...it was on twitter. But I concede it's gossip. And we all republish gossip on here don't we Am?  Not at all. Like about Mrs Abbott.

No, hardly anyone posts anything about Mrs Abbott  at all, and even when they do it is based on facts.

Plenty of celeb articles reposted here though based on gossip.

I am sure if Stephen Fry's fiance was under 18 or 17 or 16... plenty of people (family, friends) would know that for sure,  and speak out about it.

There was no question that Mr Fry's fiance is under age. My point exactly then -- what was your point in going on about how he looks younger than 27? Isn't he allowed to?

I can't see the point in that thought in the first place ( the 'looking' younger than 27yo), let alone republishing it.

Try specsavers . I would rather you explained why you think we needed to know that.

Does Rupert Murdoch look younger or older than 80+ when he is accompanied by a 40yo woman? If so, what would that matter? ( ( if looking 'younger' probably mean wealthy older people have a good cosmetic surgeon!) People are the age on their birth certificate not how old or young they 'look'.

What? Pardon sounds better

As I posted before lots of over 25's get asked for ID in the liquor store, because they 'look' young.

Tell me about it. Hansom Gransom is 22 and looks about 17. They refused him service at the bar last time we went for a pub lunch. Lost his photo ID.

What do we expect 27 year olds to look like? Face wrinkled? LOL

Ha ha you do have a sense of humour lol

How do you expect a 27 year old to look? Like a  27 year old or a 37 year old? Genuine question.

I find it quite discriminating that heterosexuals are not allow to engage in civil union.

I don't think it's a matter of being "allowed". He just does. Lucky him.

Explained what. Specsavers? They are a discount spectacles provider for those with difficulties seeing the point of any given comment.

The looking younger? A lot of older men are enchanted by youth.  A lot of older women too, of course. lol.

Well clearly he is in your minority then (i.e. gay men that aren't paedophiles), assuming you are sticking to your homophobic guns on the other thread.

Now .... would I leave my child in the care of Stephen Fry, a known gay man ?

You bet I would, the kid would probably come away smarter.  And probably less bigoted.

really?  you would leave your child with a person you don't know based on what you have seen of him in the media?

I wonder how many would have said the same about rolf harris at the time....

Budget..... optometrist... says a lot.

I don't think anyone here would find themselves position to leave their children with a celeb (that they don't know personally)  so the celeb to mind them for a few hours ( nor would the celeb be willing to child mind some unknown children)  It's a bit of a moot question.

Interesting you should quote Rolf Harris, apparently a "straight" man ..... and paedophile.   Now, I wonder what percentage of paedophiles are "straight" ?

Maybe I shouldn't leave my child with straight men.
