"Spain's Pamplona bull-running fiesta wrapped up on Sunday with another five seriously injured, including an Australian woman who was gored, after nine days that landed a total of 50 daredevils in hospital."
"A man has died after downing six litres of beer in a drinking competition at a beer festival in Spain."
"A MAN has died after collapsing during a pie-eating contest at a pub in Queensland's northeast."
Why do people do it?

I agree. In one fell swoop they've not only removed themselves from the gene pool, but increased the average IQ of the population in the process. That's got to count fcor something.

I think all those activities listed are well worth doing compared to pie stuffing and drinking huge quantities of beer in a short space of time.

I abseiled down a cliff ONCE (nearly died of fright). I have watched bungee jumpers jumping off the bridge near Queenstown NZ... too scared to try that.
I always wanted to do a tandem parachute jump when I was younger and go in a hot air balloon (too expensive). Now I don't want to, but I am still alive at least.

not to mention way better than further tormenting petrified animals just to be able to say you ran down a road with a bull

I can understand the thrill of running with the bulls. Like that grey-headed old professor said on 60 mins last night "if you can't die from it, what 's the point?" (or words to that effect)
But there's no way I'll ever understand where the glory is making yourself sick and dying in pie-eating or hot-dog or chili-eating or alcohol skulling contests.
