I have always tried not to use that word, as the definition can sometimes show as lack of intelligence (which is not the fault of the unintelligent person)
In fact my grandchildren think it is a naughty, bad word.
I find myself muttering it more and more lately though, one day I may actually say it out loud. Some of these words I would never use.
If I kick my toe because I didn't have shoes on, I would think how stupid I was....................if I put washing in the machine and forget to turn it on.................etc.
What do you think when you say Stupid?

Idiot is more derogatory than 'stupid' imo.
Idiot
A stupid person.
Origin
middle english (denoting a person of low intelligence): via Old French from Latin idiota 'ignorant person', from Greek idiōtēs 'private person, layman, ignorant person', from idios 'own, private'.

I'm prone to use the phrase 'you silly woman", or "what a dolt" when I do or see someone being foolish.
I dislike the word "stupid". And I dislike the word "hate" too.
I wonder who taught your grandchildren to think "stupid" is a naughty, bad word.
