My wife had an operation a few weeks ago - Brisbane Hospital. Just a fairly simple one - she had a skin cancer in her ear-lobe, so they cut it off and did a skin graft using skin from inside her leg. All seemed to be going reasonably well with that but she had a lot of pain in her back which got steadily worse.
About 3 weeks ago, I called the ambulance and they took her away to hospital. She had the usual set of tests and it was discovered that she had a kidney infection. They put her on antibiotic drip and more tests - no good - so they changed antibiotic and tried again .... and again ... and again. She was in hospital for 10 days and eventually they sent her home.
Two days later (last Monday) she was in so much pain that I took her to hospital again.
It seems she has contracted a super bug that none of the antibiotics will kill.
Thank you Brisbane Hospital - she obviously caught it there. So, what we do from here???? It seems it's got the specialists baffled.

apples are good for everything. Can she manage some small peeled wedges of apple to chew or suck on?
Apparently there was a reason for the old apple a day saying. Some research was done a couple of years ago which shows apples help immunity and recovery.
the last time I spoke to her she was 'nil by mouth' until she sees the doctors. I hope they don't mean the Specialist that she is supposed to be seeing on Friday ??
I am going to ring again soon - first I have to feed the boy otherwise he'll get crook too and that would be the last straw.

I also picked up an infection in hospital and ended up in a major trauma hospital for treatment. Luckily it was not a super bug, but by the time it was found it was deep and extensive. I was told the metal plates in my leg would have to come out as they were capable of 'hiding' the bacteria. This is probably why the doctors stated that the stent would need to be removed. For me it meant almost 18 months on anti biotics, and an unnecessary surgery for a run of the mill bug.

I hope your wife gets better soon, rabbit. A tricky problem, superbugs resistant to most if not all anti-biotics.

I hope your wife recovers quickly Rabbit.
Bugs are everywhere but they seem to breed in hospitals maybe because patients have already had a bit of a battering to their immune systems.

Moorna, I usually have a bit of a laugh at your "tall stories" as I see them as tongue-in-cheek humour, nothing else. Never let the truth get in the way of a good story - that was a comment often aimed at someone I used to know.
Even so, there's always a fine line one shouldn't cross but you did that today.

they told me that there was one antibiotic that they think may kill it, but she has to go off her epilim (anti seizure drug) for it to work, so she will then be in serious danger of seizures and more brain damage.

She will be nil by mouth because they decide if they need to go in for surgery...
hope they make a decision soon.

Very odd behaviour. Can ignore mostly except if comments are beyond the pale.
