Sydneysiders little bit of help please

Coming to Sydney for four nights in June. Where is a good place to stay?. I have a function to go to at the convention centre, but don't neccessarily need to stay on Darling Harbour. Would like to be close enough to see the tower and things. Is public transport good?

I have looked at a few places in Kent st, world square and Hyde Prk. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi the Novetel down in Darling Harbour not bad close to everything including ChinaTown.....the Ibis on Pitt very central but very average accommodation but within walking distance to a lot of things Also the Travelodge Wynard is not bad either.  Not sure if you are bringing a vehicle but if you are make sure what the car parking costs are you can get stung:(

Check Rydges hotels and join their loyalty club for discounts.

Don't know. While I live in Sydney, I've never stayed in a hotel here. There are lots of hotels in Sydney and I'm sure you'll have no trouble in finding a good 4 night package if you look online. All I can recommend is; don't stay in Darling Harbour. That's the less desirable end of town. Stay closer to the city centre, Kent Street as you mentioned. The Menzies at Wynyard often has good prices and is johnny on the spot  to transport and all amenities.

Meriton have some nice studios/apartments in handy locations in Sydney. Depends on what you prefer -  hotel room, studio etc, how many people staying and budget.

Depends how much you want to spend. It would be hard to find a bad hotel in Sydney.

But the closer you can get to the Harbour the better. Kent Street is more serviced apartments and a little more out of the way - a bit of a walk to everything.

What do you want to see and do?

Actually looking at an apartment type situation. There will be 4 of us just want to be central to most things. Is hyde park very far away from cbd the rates there seem resonable.

Hyde Park is in the CBD, 40 acres of it. Depends what side you are on I suppose.

I believe the Grace Hotel in York St is very good. I've never stayed there myself (Sydney native) but have had family and friends stay there and very happy.  Downhill to DH plus in the city.

If you mean the Hyde park Inn, then this is probably the most central apartment style accommodation in the city.

They did it up a few years ago. Not the cheapest but you will save money on taxis. Close to lots of places to eat that you can walk to (Chinatown, bottom end of Oxford Street, East Sydney).

Close to shops and department stores.

Close to buses that will take you down to the Harbour.
