There is a HUGE difference between paying for advertisments on facebook and paying for the likes on the details in the OP. 

I was forever getting sponsored advertisments from labor.... 

I was getting many political advertisments as that is what I am most active in while I log into facebook. 

Now I am getting furniture ads because I liked a few furniture stores...

You are correct however in the online advertisments... both sides do that...

Anyone could start a FB page using the name of anyone....and sponsor it. Never trust a FB page as being the official page for anyone important IMO.
