Taking mock compassion too far.

Ok we have had the "Poor Illegal Refugee" the "Poor Dole Bludger" the "Poor whatever" thread so now what about the "Poor Self Inflicted Addict" thread.

We may as well add them to the taxpayers  burden as well. We can cater for their "special needs" out of the bottomless pit of our national debt.

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Execute one or one hundred drug dealers, there will be plenty more willing to become drug dealers (for the $$)

How is that going to stop the demand for drugs?

It won't stop the demand. But it will help stop the supply.

Not according to statistics from the countries that have death penalty.  It dos not stop the drug supply and it does not stop people killing somebody.

You are only interested in vendetta, executing the person who supplied your grandchild is not going to solve anything.  I know some people who had kids addicted; those who gave them unconditional support and help, got them through as many rehab programs as it took, eventually got them through it.  One had really good result with Naltrexone .   People take drugs for the same reason that they drink, to drown their sorrow.  Help them to get over the pain and you are half way there.

Nah. I have no thoughts of revenge. I would just like to see the supply chain interrupted. Broken even. But I know that's too much to hope for.

what good will that do. anybody seeking to self medicate will substitute any substance that might do the trick.

it might be smarter to legalize the lot, like they do with smokes and drink

People never really recover fully from serious drug addiction.

that is a myth. and once an addict, always an addict, is a load of balony

They may be able to function, but not really really recover productive life as it should be lived. Contributing to society instead of being a burden on it.

of course they can. even an addict whacked out on their choice of drug.. knows there are places available to go when they need help [i knew] it get discussed with their peers

just putting the drug down isn't enough. one must work on your underlying problem which caused you to seek comfort in drugs in the first place.

most of time it's just due to a lack of love...from the early stages of life . just? man, it is a huge problem

The government should be tackling drug addiction from the other end, from where it begins. Heightened border security and stricter monitoring of suspect money transactions, tougher laws including execution of known drug dealers.

you may wanna add the alcohol and the tobacco industry to the list and the governments whom benefit  by taxing them

you recmomend that for your grandson too?! good lawd

& what vile thread against the addict

but attitudes ive come to expect from soulless idiots

I understand the involvement of alchohol and tobacco. I've always said that these should be restricted as well, if not banned, which is unlikely.

However, alcohol and tobacco are small fry against the epidemic of escalating drugs such as ice, ecstacy, heroin and cocaine.

We don't even mention marijuana, which is again a small player compared to above.

you do realize tobacco kills more people than anything else, that you mentioned above, don't you?

There seems to be a misconception here about my statements about execution and my drug addicted grandson.

I don't wish execution on the poor boy. I love him.

For that reason, I believe it would be a kinder death for those supplying him with drug to be executed, than live through the slow death that my sweet, handsome boy, who is going through this slow decline into death through drugs, is going through.

I'm  sorry if you and others don't understand this. Obviously you have your own reasons for not grasping my meaning.

i don't know your grandson's history or anything, but there is hope you know! & he needs your love and support.

it'll go a long way

I sincerely hope you are always in the position  you are now podds, really I do.

I hope you are never in need of the services offered and provided, as what goes around comes around, may not come to you given your apparent  lack of empathy for anyone.

Always easier on the outside looking in isn't it ?

Walk a week in my shoes mean anything to you podd ?

Like another poster said up there somewhere, you are always so black and white, hopefully the day never comes that you or one of yours has to experience the grey - whether it be caused by divorce, death of a partner, unemployment, illness, disability or drugs.

Love and support has been given, and still is, and there is hope. That's all we can cling on to.

You're right, you don't know the history, so I suggest you don't make judgement.

Define agonising pain.

You cannot define pain, you can never know how bad other person's pain is.  And there is not just physical pain, there is mental pain.  Kid who feels ugly, unpopular, who is bullied because he is different, who gets depressed, who cannot get a job ...............  Well, lets just kick them while they are down.  And when they try to escape that reality, then we as society just write them off.

I was never hooked on any drugs, except nicotine, but I was given morphine while in hospital, and it was the most amazing experience.  Whole world was just soft velvety warm happy place without pain or care.  I can understand perfectly how unhappy person would want to go there again, without second thought about the possible consequences.

Everybody's story is different.  Many young people try drugs under peer pressure.  They see their friends using drugs, and they cannot see any evidence of them being addicted, so they have a go, and some get hooked.

Nicotine is the most addictive of all the drugs, that was generally accepted - not sure how ice compares now.  Yet, as I described previously, I was able to smoke intermittently without ever crave a cigarette, until the time that I was severely stressed, then after accepting just one cigarette it took me 6 months to stop, and now I feel repelled by anybody smoking.

I think there is a hope for every addict.

it just means ancestors, we have aristocrats in the past as well.  however imo it's not a licence to be an arrogant human being or to look down on others

We are after all, just mere mortals

alas, our family fortune was squandered long ago

I think that with drug addiction, you cannot put a 70 year old head on a teenagers body, young people think they are invincible  and there are a number of reasons people begin using
