Tasmania's economy is a green labor basket case and the state is bankrupt and dependent on wealfare from the rest of Australia to survive.
An interesting article thats actually true about Tasmania written by David Leyonhjelm
Having once lived there, I know Tasmania is a pleasant place to live. But so is Greece. And if Tasmania was an independent country, it would be in more trouble than Greece.
There was quite a lot of discussion about this in 2013. A good summary came in an article by Jonathan West, director of the Australian Innovation Research Centre and a resident of Tasmania, who described the state as follow: “Tasmania ranks at the bottom among Australian states on virtually every dimension of economic, social, and cultural performance
Tasmania is also a mendicant state, highly reliant on the rest of the country. It generates about a third of its state budget, the rest being GST allocations and specific purpose payments from the commonwealth.
GST and income tax originating within the state fall well short of what it receives, meaning the government effectively receives welfare from the rest of the country.
When the NSW economy goes into recession, one of the consequences is less money for Tasmania.
This is on top of the higher proportions of welfare that Tasmanian individuals receive
The rest of the interesting article can be read here and its a very good read...... http://catallaxyfiles.com/2014/03/07/david-leyonhjelm-tasmania-a-province-of-victoria/
So should Tasmania become a province of Victoria?
That is if Victoraia would want a green/labor bankrupt basket case that is Tasmania as part of it

Tasmania headed for Liberal govt: poll
http://www.sbs.com.au/news/article/2014/03/07/tasmania-headed-liberal-govt-poll
A first Tasmanian Liberal government in 16 years is looking more likely with a new poll suggesting the party will record a thumping election victory next week.
A ReachTEL survey shows the opposition still well ahead of Labor and Liberal leader Will Hodgman almost twice as popular as Premier Lara Giddings.
Support for the Liberal remained steady at 47 per cent, while the ALP dropped a point to 23.6.
Mr Hodgman is the preferred premier with 54.6 per cent support from the 2600 Tasmanians polled.
Ms Giddings has slumped to 24.7 per cent.
The poll, published on Hobart newspaper The Mercury's website, suggests the Liberals are on track to gain the three seats they need for an absolute majority in the state's 25-member lower house.
It came on a bad day for the government, as the opposition attacked it over speculation Ms Giddings would be dumped as ALP leader even if she pulled off a miraculous victory on March 15.

The Deloitte Access Economics (DAE) Business Outlook Report has painted a grim picture of the South Australian economy and confirmed that Premier Weatherill’s Budget Update forecasts are still wildly optimistic.
The DAE Report released today forecasts that South Australia’s economic growth this year will be the worst of all states, with SA’s growth forecast to be less than half the national rate.

So whats your thoughts on this poddster
“Tasmania ranks at the bottom among Australian states on virtually every dimension of economic, social, and cultural performance
and what do you think ... So should Tasmania become a province of Victoria?
What do you think the Victorian people would think of this idea or of it happening?

I am a Victorian.
I think thank you for the generous offer, but no thank you.
Victoria has enough of a financial load, and Tasmania is a proud little island...it would be offensive all round.
